My dad was a largely absent parent bc of work. He left before I went to school & locked himself away to do admin all evening. Even so, he read to me. Some of my fav memories are of him doing silly voices for characters. He's 76 now & he says he had FUN thinking up those voices.
Gen Z parents don't read to their kids anymore because "it's so boring.". Just 41% of parents now read to their kids, down from 64% in 2012. Not only is this creating a future generation of illiterates, but will eventually collapse the market for books and bookstores.

I once read something that stuck with me: If you misgender a trans person you dislike, all that does is tell the other trans people in your life, some of whom you may love, how conditional your love and respect are and how close they always are to you being their enemy.
> trans woman does bad thing.> everyone misgenders her.> “well don’t do bad things if you don’t want to be misgendered”. It’s insane how normalised transphobia is. People will use any excuse to justify and downplay it. This just shows that they don’t respect our identities.
