1,9. This year we published a paper investigating impairments among DSM-5 eating disorders in eating pathology, psychological and physical health with a multi-level meta-analysis. What did we find? #mentalhealth #DSM5 #eatingdisorders #beyonddiagnosis

2,2. I do not hold (all) staff responsible. Junior doctors are put out without sufficient training, wards are under staffed and resourced, but the harm this does to our sick and most vulnerable people is devastating. Utterly devastating. I can only hope Labour does improve.

1,2. I’ve had multiple impromptu visits to NHS services this year due to my sick mum. My heart breaks for what this is. My heart breaks for my mum. Neurosurgery was incredible, and ICU/ITU. But experiences outside of that have been dangerous, negligent, and dehumanising.

This is a huge issue from a collaborative perspective, as well an individual leadership. If the results are known it would be good to share them embargoed out of respect of researcher time. Don’t care when they make it public but we need to know to be effective in our jobs.
NARF has reached out to the NHMRC on behalf of members and the sector. Hopefully we get some clarity regarding Investigator Grant outcomes soon so that time isn’t wasted by researchers on Ideas Grant submissions, it’s also an issue for collaborations 🤞#grantwritingseason

Make that call, connection, or visit; don’t leave it to next week. Lost someone important to me. Had scheduled to call him this weekend after failing to call him over the last three weeks, and not managing to fit in a trip to visit him in the UK in Dec/Jan. Connect. 💔

It's that time of year when I start to populate the interview schedule for @einstein_agogo on @3RRRFM. So if you know somebody who would be a good guest, DM me. PhDs, ECRs particularly welcome. Would love to hear from more geologists this year too.

It is hard to understand RISK scores as humans - @PGCgenetics speaks against embryo selection using polygenic risk. I hope this does not continue or spread further. Ethical implications are huge, as are a fundamental misunderstanding of this science.

The festive season can be particularly difficult for people with eating disorders - and we don't always know who's struggling. These holidays (and all year round), a reminder to not comment on people's bodies or what someone is/is not eating.
Butterfly Foundation says 75% of those living with an eating disorder experience a highly distressing “voice” or noise in their heads. If you, or someone you know, has an eating disorder, please be kind, gentle and patient to yourself and those around you.

Great SMHR, with great knowledge shared…
Loving the approach of co-production that A/Prof Sarah Maguire has used in developing the Australian Eating Disorder Research Translation Centre! @SMHR #smhr2023 #mentalhealth #codesign #coproduction #livedexperience

Should be an interesting read!
How do your favorite disorders fare in a data-driven reorganization of the DSM-5? Find out in this new preprint where we followed the patterns in 14,762 individuals’ symptoms with the goal of overcoming limitations in both the DSM and @HiTOP_system

@NurtureOfNature doing some really important work on epigenetics and eating disorders. This work can help better identify people at risk of developing eating disorders for early prevention, and understand the relationship between our genes and the environment @SMHR #smhr2023
