Fantastic that Birmingham is looking to become a low-traffic neighbourhood. Absolutely the way to go. But how did they do it..? Oh yes, same story - a completed ring road. #shrewsbury could follow suit by also rerouting the current traffic out of town with a completed #NWRR.

#NWRR cost has decreased to £80m and co2 emissions have been cut by 31% (57,200 tonnes estimate on build) = 0.017 of total UK emission as of 2020. Positives substantially outweigh the negatives. Let’s get on now so we can also viably pedestrianise #shrewsbury. @stevecharmley

The writer quite rightly points out #shrewsburys increasing population, desperate need for economic growth and need to reroute traffic away from polluting town. The irony is that the #NWRR would aid all of these. If anything this letter is a great case FOR the #NWRR. 👍

Absolutely agree, glad to see progressive steps 👌. Exactly why we need to complete the link around #shrewsbury with the #NWRR - reroute pollutant traffic out of the town centre and make it more attractive for cyclists/pedestrians. Good for the environment and local economy✌️.
Boris Johnson: "I support councils, of all parties, which are trying to promote cycling and bus use. And if you are going to oppose these schemes, you must tell us what your alternative is, because trying to squeeze more cars and vans on the same roads...is not going to work."

Interesting outcome for UK road schemes…especially when considering the much needed #NWRR in #Shropshire. Let’s just get on and build the #NWRR now it’s becoming more and more obvious that the opposition to it is clearly either NIMBY or a misplaced political agenda.

#NWRR will reroute the increasing stop start polluting traffic out of #shrewsbury town and enable pedestrianisation. As well as have other economical benefits That is good for the wider environment and the bigger picture.
That’s exactly the reason from day one, nothing has changed, vehicular numbers will keep increasing, causing congestion, eventually fuel will change to become carbon neutral, but volumes won’t, build the road
