Proud to finally present this banger! We found synchrotron radiation from two extreme, near-Sun shocks! With @NASA's PSP, we directly measured the relativistic electrons and shock conditions under which such radiation is generated. 1/5

In our new paper, we propose a new "time-of-flight" instability which addresses the limitations of beam-plasma interactions in homogeneous plasma which plagued the Ginzburg-Zheleznyakov model. Also, it has the best looking type III spectrogram ever.

Today is the last contact with Parker Solar Probe before its historic solar flyby on Dec. 24, when it will pass just 3.8 million miles from the Sun: Next contact is Dec. 27, when Parker sends a beacon tone to confirm it’s safe. Here we go! 🛰️ ☀️ .#3point8.
