Speaking is a skill, as much as a sport or career. It takes time to learn, patience to hone and lots of coaching and guidance. I wrote a blog about this a few years ago, and though the tech may have dated, the message certainly hasn’t… Any thoughts folks. ?.

but it dbut it doesn’t prove you as a speaker. I’ve seen some terrible presentations from big name ex military, footballers, mountaineers and the like, and wonderful presentations from people you’ve never heard of. .

Just because you have an Award, a Gong, written a Best Seller, been a Great Sportsperson etc, doesn’t mean you can speak well with audiences. It means you’ve excelled in your field, and hopefully have some stories to tell (and your own stories are the best in speaking). .

Recently I spoke at an event, and afterwards a lady approached me. She was stocky, and as I found later, a retired British Power Lifter. “I’ve got an MBE, I could speak. !” was her opening line. Thankfully the conversation improved after that, but the statement made me think🧵.

Sadly I’ve been through journeys like this a few times. Utter rubbish, and pityfull apologies….
Needed to do some work on the train home so shelled out for a first class ticket. Where I’m sitting on the floor! Honestly, I travel the world by train and so many countries get it so right. Why can’t we? 😢
