Thomas: "Hehe, I pranked Murdoch so good today! And now I'm at Ffarquhar, he can't get me because big engines can't go on my branchline!"
Murdoch: "OY THOMAS!!! THERE AIN'T NOWHERE YOU CAN HIDE FROM ME!!!!!"
Also, as it turns out from what Rhys told me, Murdoch actually has a lighter axle load than Thomas, because his axle-loading is spread out. So technically this means Murdoch can run up to Ffarquhar if he wanted!
How much would Sodor's history conflict or overwrite real-world history? Both within the railway/preservation circle or even on Britain as a whole?
Here's a thread of some interesting points to consider...
Alt take: Dudley ends up in a holiday camp. He may be preserved, but he hates it! Children climb all over him and into his cab to play with his controls.
All he can do is watch the trains pass by and tries his hardest not to lose his sanity!
"Awkward Reunion" (1937)
TFD: "Well, I'm on holiday on the Mainland! I hope nothing ruins this lovely day!"
98462 & 87546: "AYO LOOK WHO IT IS! IT'S FATTY!"
TFD: "Aww, bugger..." 😓
In "Blue Mountain Mystery," you may have seen this kind of grey wagon scattered around the background of the Blue Mountain Quarry. There is some interesting history behind this car.
It is called an "art wagon" and was used by the Manod Quarry at Blaneau Ffestiniog to hide-
What are some real railway photos you know of you’d think were taken straight out of the Railway Series if you didn’t know any better?
Here’s 4 picks from me! :)
(2/2)
James: “I’VE BEEN LIVING A LIE!!!!” 😭
Henry: “Seriously, James? I thought after all this time you knew?”
James: “I thought they were red like the rest of me!
Henry:
Sir Topham Hatt when an engine breaks down: "I give all my engines a chance! You shall be rebuilt at my Works and we'll have no more mechanical hiccups from now on!
Meanwhile Other Railway controllers when their engines break down:
(Repost)
"You know, I'm surprised you didn’t get up in a toss over Gordon’s “black wheel” comment given you have black wheels yourself, James."
"Heheh, yeah I...”
"WAIT!"
"I HAVE BLACK WHEELS?!" (1/2)
You're in charge of a railway somewhere in Britain. You're tasked with getting four engines, one each optimized for the following tasks:
-One express passenger engine.
-One goods engine.
-One mixed-traffic engine.
-One shunter/branchline engine.
Show me your picks!
Headcanon idea: Gordon denies the existence of express tank engines, thinking such a concept is ridiculous and whimsical, believing in express tank engines he thinks is like believing magic, fairies, or even Bigfoot exists!
“Ohh, if only he knew…” thought Edward.
Santa Claus would most benefit from having a railway to connect to the North Pole. To make toys for all the children of the world, he would need materials as well as coal to power all his factories, and bring food to sustain the elves.
Which engines you think he’d get?
The E2’s were known to have been used as bankers on Herne Hill and other places, and were known to have done the task pretty well….
What if Thomas served as a banker for Gordon’s Hill during his time at Wellsworth between 1924-25? I like to headcanon he did. :) (1/2)
TFC: "As you are probably aware, the Ulfstead Mining Company will begin shipping nuclear flasks from the old lead mine. An engine will be needed to-"
Thomas: "SIR PLEASE DON'T GIVE THE JOB TO PERCY!"
"..."
GUYS I FOUND IT. I FOUND THE ORIGINAL SITE!
Ok, so it was actually called "Minor-Maniax" and it's a Japanese site. Archive has copied the site as it was between 2002 and 2011.
I'll make my own contribution to this thread.
There was also this 3D graphics website by the name of Minor Maxia or something like that, that made a bunch of graphics of Thomas and his friends. This image dates back to 2002, Lady was made so this site was existent by the time-
The Railway Series and the TV Series have both brought fame to Thomas and his friends, and the Island of Sodor as a whole, cementing their names into a grand legacy that thousands of generations enjoy to this day.
But did you ever wonder how their success would affect Sudrians-
*Live reaction of the Three Railway Engines just hearing their debut RWS stories took place 100 years ago*
Gordon: "Goodness, where did the time go? It feels like only yesterday those events took place...
Edward: "Gee Gordon, bet that makes you feel old don't it?"
Henry: *laughs*
"Henry, if Rule 55 is about letting the signalman know where you're at on the mainline, then what's Rule 34 about? I heard Driver talking about it-"
"P-Percy, we're not allowed to talk about Rule 34."
Here's a cursed way to explain family relations between engines I thought of.
The designer of engines can be considered the "father," whilst the locomotive works themselves are considered the "mother." The "father" drafts the locomotive on a set of drawings, which are submitted-
I need to make a discussion thread on this.
If the Sodor engines in the RWS do have movie nights, which movies or television media do you see them watching and liking the most? (Besides obviously the TV Series lol)
After being swindled by a secondhand dealer on Henry, Topham Hatt likely would’ve gone to the LNER himself to get a Robinson Atlantic straight from the source!
Gresley, whilst understanding Topham’s interest in an Atlantic, knew they were becoming obsolete fast and would -
Having Hank and Connor in an episode together was really a missed opportunity in the CGI series.
Their home railroads, the Pennsylvania and New York Central arguably had the most heated rivalry, beef and competition against each other in the entire history of railroading.-
Today Percy loudly proclaimed his 42nd New Years Resolution of 2021 was to teach Donald and Douglas 'how to speak proper English'.
Percy has now been chased out of the yard for the 16th time, given up and decided to stay at the shed next to Knapford Harbour.
What’s one steam engine you’re absolutely sure could’ve beat Mallard’s record if tried?
Only conditions: level track, and a long enough stretch of track to run on. Possible locations can be listed too.
Hot take: 98462 and 87546 got their ridiculous numbers because they wanted to be the railway's Nos. 1 and 2 to be superior to everyone else.
Topham decided to give them the lowest numbers he thought possible to knock them down a peg or two.
(V2)
The Big Engines: *arguing over something stupid*
Edward: "Oh dear... The big engines are fighting again. I'd better resolve this before-"
Toby: *suspiciously eats popcorn*
Edward: "...Toby? What did you do?”
Good God... I just had a horrifying thought...
If all of Sodor's accidents were deadly, then Percy probably has the largest kill count of any engine on the entire railway...
Today is the only day you can retweet this.
100 years have officially passed since the first of Sir Nigel Gresley’s Pacific’s, GNR 1470 “Great Northern,” rolled out of the Plant at Doncaster.
I have finally found a perfectly logical explanation for Boulder!
Considering there is a gold mine on Sodor in the TV Series, this actually makes perfect sense!
Just saw this illustration from the 1980 Thomas annual...
What in the *heck* happened here? And is that Oliver, Thomas and Duck in the background? What did they do, smother the engines in coal as a prank or something?
What is the context here?
Now that most of the NRM’s archival images are online, anyone tried finding that drawing for the L&YR Class 29 2-6-0 yet?
Yes, believe it or not, James was real. Drawings were made for a 28 Mogul, but were never built.
I had an idea... remember the large goods yard turntable from Season 5?
What if it was actually the site of the original Knapford Sheds we see in S1, but since it was so close to Tidmouth Sheds and redundant, the sheds were knocked down but the turntable was kept and the area-
Hot take: in BWBA, the reason why you see Black 5’s in other countries, is because the War Department built them for continental use during WW2 in CGI canon, instead of 8F’s.
You know... you could be able to wiggle the "Flying Thistle" into RWS canon... Here's what I'm thinking.
So in “Enterprising Engines,” it’s emphasized that all of Gordon’s “Doncaster brothers” are all gone, save for Flying Scotsman… However, not all A1’s and A3’s were built-
Screw it.
“Common Misconceptions about the Railway Series”
Starting off.
1. There isn’t actually a dedicated banker at Gordon’s Hill, nor does there need to be full-time. Only during peak seasons if trains are too heavy. Duck, Thomas, Donald and Douglas have all been known to-
Rusty meets Henry one day at Crovan's Gate and says, "Henry! You'll never guess what happened to me in Wales!"
Henry: "What is it, Rusty?"
Rusty tells Henry about the little diesel's paint washing off in the rain during the Awdry Extravaganza.
Henry's reaction:
Did you know Edward and Henry's TVS whistles sound pretty close to a Fowler 4F and GWR King's whistle? But how close? Watch this short video and find out!
Also leave any suggestions for what other whistles would sound a lot like other old TVS whistles with a pitch change! :)
YouTube : “Ah, a Thomas the train video, which clearly is made for children because of the use of kids characters.”
*includes implied sexual content*
YouTube : “As long as it includes kids characters from a series made for kids, it’s for kids! We don’t care what it has in it!”
Now I'm wondering about Thomas with a spark arrestor? I'd suppose it would make since the E2's were known to spew molten coals out of their funnels. XD
Imagine if "Slippy Sodor" was written about Thomas having a spark arrestor during the dry season, but he hated it like he had-
(1936) Gordon eyed the zeppelin suspiciously. "They're spying on us! I'm telling you little Edward; they're poking their noses around the local industries so they can find targets to destroy should war break out!" Edward remained skeptical but he hoped Gordon was wrong...
Story prompt: the Works Diesel meets Sir Handel, and explains that they are in fact, cousins!
How do you think Sir Handel would take the news? Being related to a diesel?
I’d like to think there are more private industrial engines on Sodor, than just Mavis, Bill, Ben, and by extent Fergus.
Sodor itself would support a large amount of industries, the RWS itself supports this. Not only for mines, but gasworks, oil fields, refineries, brickworks and
James claims he had a “three-chime steam whistle” fitted to him at some point in the CGI Series.
How does he receive this? Is it possible he might’ve gotten it as a spare during war service abroad?
"Thanks for the advice you've given me, Diesel!"
"Now I can use this knowledge to bring down the railways of Sodor!"
"All the rails will be paved over with roads! All the engines will be scrapped! And- and... uhh..."
"..."
"Oh."
Watching “Gallant Old Engine” got me thinking.
In these scenes, we clearly see the old Mid Sodor Railway shed in a dilapidated state. But in Granpuff, when Stuart and Falcon leave the sheds, they aren’t actually in that bad of a state. It is in GOE, which got me thinking…
Thanks to the recent video from @/SamsTrains, I just found out Annie and Clarabel Mk2 have ROAD NUMBERS.
Clarabel is 255, whilst Annie is 333.
Wow… crazy if the NWR actually had 333 carriages by 1925!
