Paul urged Pierre to get into a lifeboat, but he refused. Paul managed to jump into one, but Pierre Rousseau lost his life in the #Titanic disaster. His body was never recovered or identified. His wife later inherited his estate. 6/6

During the sinking, the kitchen staff were in their quarters. Paul Maugé, Pierre Rousseau’s clerk, informed him of the situation and the 2 men tried to reach the Boat Deck. 4/6

Later, they decided to leave France for England and settled in Chelsea. Pierre worked as a cook in several hotels as well as in restaurants in London managed by Luigi Gatti. 2/6

Pierre Rousseau was born on 13th October 1863, in Châtillon-en-Bazois, in the Nièvre department (France). His parents were Anne Durand & Jean Rousseau. Around 1880, he married Alice Bazin, and the couple had a daughter, Berthe, born in 1885. 1/6

In October 1911, following her collision with HMS Hawke, the Olympic was in Belfast for hull repairs. During this time, a photographer took the opportunity to capture both the Olympic & the #Titanic together.

On 5th October 1934, RMS Olympic (#Titanic's sister) reached a milestone: she made her 250th round trip. So, her 500th Atlantic crossing. The ship left New York bound for Southampton. 📸: 8th August 1934, with the Cunard & White Star flags on the aft mast of Olympic.

In early October 1911, 2 weeks after her collision with the Hawke and following temporary repairs to her hull, the Olympic (#Titanic's sister) left Southampton for Belfast & the Harland & Wolff shipyards to undergo permanent repairs and return to service as quickly as possible.

Opened on 2nd October 1867, by James Hamilton, Chairman of the Belfast Harbour Commissioners, the Hamilton Graving Dock turns 158 today. Since 2009, it’s been home to the Nomadic (#Titanic’s tender), now restored and open to the public.

1 October 1915, Captain Hayes, the captain of Olympic (#Titanic's sister), spotted a lifeboat. On board were 34 French people from Provincia that had been sunk in the Mediterranean by the U-33. A few hours later, the survivors were rescued on board the ship and taken to Moudros.

At the end of the day, #Titanic returned to Belfast and was granted a one-year certificate. She then departed for Southampton to complete her final preparations before welcoming passengers for her Maiden Voyage. 5/5
