I just found out there is a new Baldur's Gate RPG game. I have no choice but to lock myself in the basement w/ Marshall Mathers LP blasting and pick up where I left off in 8th grade after last Baldur's Gate. For those who know: Half Elf (wood) Bard (College of Swords).

The first major I declared in undergrad was Archeology (Ancient Near East Specialization). I miss those courses so much. True story: I learned more about presentation best practice from presenting dig site findings in order of depth/year/season than any science course.

Nothing has ever tested me as much as this moment right now. The 4 month old has symptomatic Covid and is miserable. My wife and I are both symptomatic and equally miserable. The three year old? Fine and full of energy. This is punishment for something.

There are three types of journals. 1. Those that let deadlines pass without reminders and then suddenly a month late send an email. 2. Those with 2-3 reasonable warnings before deadlines. 3. Frontiers, who make sure you get daily emails across their 1000 journals.

Say it louder! The backbone of research is often treated as an afterthought. Adding: probably on the rare side to get even middle author status for data collectors/coordinators.
Silly we still don’t have a good academic reward system for people involved in data collection. Often the reward is an awkward middle author position on papers for which they did not have the opportunity to write or revise or even read before publication. We should do better.
