Economist Chris Richardson tells the ABC that the Albanese Govt could deliver another surplus next year. Which begs the question - should there have been more relief for struggling households in this year’s budget?.

And here’s the thing. If you plugged the Industry Department comm forecasts into this budget, then tax revenues – on my estimates – would be a cumulative $45bn higher by 2026-27. The difference next fin year – 2023-24 – would be over $14bn . enough to keep the budget in surplus.

Elections in the wealthy Melb electorate of Goldstein are usually pretty predictable. The seat has been held by the Coalition for decades but this time the sitting Liberal has been forced to fight, thanks to the arrival of one of the so-called teal independents #abc730 @ashmcghee.

Many people would like to have an electric car, but find them too expensive still. That's fine, wait a couple of years, a few years even. Make the old car last, or buy 2nd hand. Main thing is not to bring into this world another conventional car that'll hang around for 20 years.
