Thousands of eligible students are being turned away from medical schools annually. It’s clear we urgently need investment in training more local GPs – especially for our regional communities. Australia’s health depends on it. Read more via ABC here:

It's #CrazySocks4Docs Day! Doctors provide better care when they're healthy too. Colourful socks won't fix mental health, but they start important conversations. Let's speak openly and support those who support us all. #DoctorsWellbeing #MentalHealthMatters #SupportEachOther

Great to see NSW approving GP diagnosis and prescribing for ADHD. This will reduce wait times and costs and relieve pressure on hospitals, patients and their families. Well done @RACGP and @bekhoffman for your advocacy.

Had a fantastic weekend at the Practice Owners Conference, hearing from insightful speakers and catching up with colleagues. Was great to delve deeper into what the Govt incentives mean for the future of general practice and how practice owners can embrace the changes.

Today we recognise the experiences of the Stolen Generations and the lasting impact these actions have had on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I encourage everyone to take time this week to reflect, listen, and learn. #NationalSorryDay

Happy #WorldFamilyDoctorDay! I acknowledge the dedication and compassion of Aussie GPs who make huge differences in patients’ lives every day. This year’s theme is “Building Mental Resilience in a Changing World.” Doctor well-being and patient care are crucially intertwined.

Brilliant conversations about the present and future of healthcare at the Digital Health Festival in Melbourne this week. We’re seeing commitment to better use patient data, better communication and smarter use of digital solutions in primary care.

I spoke to @Sky News about the importance of #influenza vaccination. Confirmed influenza cases have never been higher – now the is the time to get vaccinated. Flu is a serious condition, which took the lives of more than 1000 Australians last year. Time to roll your sleeve up.

As our Vice President & WA Chair Ramya Raman told @westaustralian - the Govt's commitment to encourage junior doctors into general practice is a big step forward. Expanding GP training will ensure more Australians can access care from a GP where they live

Future GPs training in Western Australia has surged but with the workforce still lagging behind, experts have warned a lack of hands-on experience is pushing junior doctors away from general practice.

Congrats to the Labor Govt for their win. We welcome the opportunity to collaborate to ensure accessible and affordable GP care for everyone in Australia. Our goal is to make sure all patients can see a GP near them, who they trust and knows their history .

Measles is a very contagious disease and concerningly we've had more cases in the last few months than all of last year. As I told @9NewsAUS yesterday - the key is boosting vaccination rates. For herd immunity we need immunisation rates of 95% or higher:

Of the 23 measles cases recorded in Victoria so far this year, almost half were contracted locally.

The Govt’s $8.5b Medicare package was a step forward, but as I told @guardian, we need more investment in longer consults. 1 in 2 have chronic health conditions and it takes time to provide that care. For longer consults the rebate is much lower per min:

Labor has spruiked its $8.5bn investment as the solution to decreasing bulk-billing rates, but some GPs believe it is ‘designed to fail’

It looks like it might be an early start to the flu season this year- with 59% more cases so far than this time last year. Now’s the best time to get your vaccinations – so see your GP to work out which flu vaccine might be right for you:

It was an honour to preside over the first @RACGP Fellowship ceremony for 2025 - and the first ever in Toowoomba! A real joy to meet so many New Fellows and their families and to hear their inspiring stories. Great idea QLD Faculty hosting regional Fellowship ceremonies.

The Govt’s $1b #mentalhealth package misses the profession which provides more psych support than any other part of our health system: general practice. Instead of further fragmenting care, we should increase Medicare rebates so patients can see their GP:

Labor’s Federal Election commitment to create ‘more free mental health services’ includes new dedicated walk-in clinics, but the college fears this will only further fragment care.
