Is mitochondrial pathology universal in idiopathic Parkinson's disease? We find widespread mitochondrial pathology in the brain of ~25% of individuals with PD, linked to a non-tremor dominant motor phenotype. Could this be a "mitoPD" subtype? https://t.co/xXlmN7Ziui

Each day, 80 people in the UK are newly diagnosed with #ParkinsonsDisease which affects over six million people globally. There is currently no cure. Working closely with patients, our researchers are transforming the understanding of Parkinson’s disease. 🧵 #WorldParkinsonsDay

Nothing makes you realise how fast the last 12 months have flown by more than the annual researchfish submission email. Felt like I only did it last month. Potential to harness this for time travel to the future?

As a #DoctorWho fan and scientist this is absolutely brilliant! Maybe I need to start looking at framing all my Parkinson’s research in the context of Doctor Who. Very entertaining read @Richard_D_Riley

New double blind study results of Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) in #parkinsons as a possible mitochondrial rescue agent. Great study by Bandmann and colleagues, 'Midbrain 31P-MRS demonstrated an increase in both Gibbs free energy and inorganic phosphate levels in the UDCA treatment

This is huge, publishing in journals has a whole host of problems and it is encouraging to see a group of academics standing for what they feel is right. I’m sure the new journal ⁦@ImagingNeurosci⁩ will be far superior and look forward to reading it!

Unexpected highlight of the week was getting my cat printed onto a coffee which is not something I knew I needed in my life. I’m therefore now pivoting all my future research into printing my cat onto various beverages #CatsOfTwitter
