Horrifying news from the Alabama town where the @RuralStudio works
Newbern, Alabama had never had an African-American mayor until Patrick Braxton. But once he ascended to the majority-Black town's top office, the trouble began: a white minority locked him out of town hall. Read & share the full story, only on @TreadbyLee:

Such good news. Few architects have had such a salutary effect on Chicago and on the profession as Carol Ross Barney.
Our highest honor, the Gold Medal, recognizes those whose work has had a lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture. Meet Carol Ross Barney, FAIA, the 2023 recipient→ https://t.co/modD92Qsii

The stereotype is true, architects are kind of control freaks. But there are some very real reasons why some of the seemingly small things we get worked up about actually do matter. One of them is "scaling drawings." Do not do that!! But why? 🧵👇

The Nation has learned that Mike Davis, author and activist, radical hero and family man, has died after a long struggle with esophageal cancer. @JonWiener1, a friend and co-author, wrote his obit:

Anybody know about a new TSA checkpoint procedure? Friday at IAD, guards had passengers walk in isolated pairs through a large gap in the security line. Kind of like running the gauntlet. Not sure if it was for sniffer dogs, or some biometric thing…?

Great NYC walkabout with @alexbozikovic
Beautiful public architecture by @mecanoo_ for the @nypl: a capacious, comfortable, hardy building that is also rigorously detailed. And colourful. https://t.co/Wm9HdjIuiF

RIP indeed. Love that Squid Game lifted these. And after Gilliam used Marne la vallee in Brazil. I wonder what Bofill thought of being the go-to architect for surrealist dystopia
the walden 7 (alicante) and la muralla roja (barcelona) projects of the 1970s are even more crazy/amazing. on my bucket list.
