Here’s what I did with my morning:
"My name is Nathaniel Dye, and I'm dying of cancer" "At first I was told I'd have a rough year with treatment and surgery and then be free to live my life. When scans eventually happened further spread was discovered and my prognosis worsened" "It's all but certain that I'll

Maybe great minds do think alike. We certainly share views around the ‘paternalistic’ nature of end of life care and I’ve now discovered I’m not the only person to describe assisted dying as a tool in the PC box. [I don’t have the vocabulary to have first thought of ‘arsenal’.]
“I think we must be careful not to be paternalistic.” Sir Tom Shakespeare told the Lords Committee that the assisted dying Bill gives terminally ill people choice — not instead of palliative care, but as another tool in its arsenal — with safeguards that protect autonomy and

I wonder if those responding to my last post about the PM are people who know I’m terminally ill, consider everyone fair game and don’t care, or if they’re robots and don’t/will never understand the concept. Either way, they keep to suspiciously American working patterns!

To anyone who questions whether we have a compassionate PM with a soul and worthy conscience, please watch this. The job isn’t easy but in the most challenging circumstances, he’s getting it done.
This is very moving. I’d much rather have this decent, competent and committed public servant with obvious depth of soul and character in charge than the alternative spectrum of options, who range from the crassly venal to the utterly absurd.

Suspected supporter of racists, Chris Philp, fails at least three times to withdraw support for the use of racist language from his future Reform party boss. 2% is perhaps a little generous, no?

Congratulations to @LucyMPowell for securing the Deputy Leadership. I really hope Lucy makes the job her own. Much applause to @bphillipsonMP for such a spirited campaign and that this result will bring the silver lining of the opportunity to dedicate her efforts to education!

So many thanks again to @kimleadbeater for standing up for people like me ‘in their dying days’. It’s true that I am highly unlikely to access an assisted death myself but that certainly doesn’t stop me standing by others who might. Simply: because it is the right thing to do.
.@kimleadbeater says it plainly: when the law concerns dying people, we must hear from them and their families. They know best why change is needed - no loved one should face grief and the fear of prosecution, and no dying person should be forced to suffer against their wishes.

The House of Lords Select Committee into the Terminally Ill Adults Bill will not be taking evidence from those, like me, with lived experience, and our loved ones. This is what I would say:

“Look me in the eye and tell me why me and my friends… don’t deserve to die with dignity.” Terminally ill campaigner Elise Burns’ plea to the House of Lords. Her words reflect what most of the public already believe: it’s time for choice. 🔗 https://t.co/3hW8dDAO1V

Please correct me if I’ve missed something, but on a day when scandal rocks the reform party, it appears to be their turn OFF the media round?

I’m grateful to the producers of Radical on @BBCr4today for warning us that the headteacher of the Michaela Academy would be featured so as to avoid it-Unfortunately, they chose to air most of the interview this morning-Such toxic ideology has no place in our state school system.

.@SadiqKhan is not trying to impose Sharia Law on London. This is a Mayor who marches with Pride, who stands up for difference of background and opinion, who’s focused on improving our transport, our air, our streets, our safety, our choices and chances. Proud he’s our Mayor.

Have the Cabinet had a bet on who can get the term ‘snake oil salesman’ on air the most times this Conference season? Purely from today’s (imo excellent) speech today and this interview alone, surely @wesstreeting is winning!
“Not you again!” Health Secretary Wes Streeting tells @nicholaswatt that he thinks Sir Keir Starmer’s conference speech was “unifying” and “in stark contrast to the snake oil salesman Nigel Farage.” #Newsnight

I’ve been fortunate enough to make it to the Labour conference this week but it’s brought into sharp focus how much pain/energy management have become a problem. There’s no way this won’t be my last one. Nonetheless, if anyone has a panel etc for to aim for today, please shout :)

Doubtless being terminally ill won’t shield me from the online abuse that comes with being pictured with three times election winner Sir Sadiq Khan but it’s far more important to state that - in my opinion - he’s doing a brilliant job as Mayor and always has done.
