The Ford government is touting nearly $1B for new schools opening this fall, but the repair backlog for existing ones has swelled to $16B. “This isn’t record spending, it’s record neglect,” says @ETFOeducators @ETFOpresident.

“The decisions about our children’s schools will be made by someone behind a desk at Queen’s Park. It won’t work.” There is growing backlash after Ontario’s education minister threatened to eliminate elected trustees. Opposition leaders calling it an “attack on local democracy.”

NEW: newly-elected @ETFOeducators president tells us Ford govt is intentionally underfunding education “to the tune of billions of dollars” to eventually privatize it: “I do believe this is part of a scripted project to hand over this system to private capital," says @dmastin55.
