Incredible aerial vision of the fire at Dereel. Residents speaking very highly of the fire fighters that managed to protect the town’s homes.

The winds have picked up in Beaufort, and crews are on high alert going in and out of the existing fire ground. There have been some flare ups. We’ve see a water bomber douse a small blaze on the outskirts of town. (Pic Danielle Bonica)

This morning, five strike teams with more than 110 firefighters, departed NSW to assist our Victorian colleagues with significant fire activity and elevated fire conditions. If you are currently driving on the Hume Highway, keep an eye out for our trucks and give them a wave.

Michael Dridan was with one of the strike teams trying to protect assets yesterday. While his crew managed to save one home, they unfortunately lost another. He was then out with hoses preparing his own home at Ampitheatre today after a wind change put the area at risk.

Back in Raglan today residents were praising the work of local firefighters protecting homes. The blaze went between Kerrie Royal and her neighbours houses. Initial estimates of between 5 and 10 houses lost in the fires but assessments continuing. https://t.co/iNUrmoGLm7

Two words ‘Thank You’ ! to all emergency service personnel on the fire line today and tonight. It’s not over by far as many are putting their lives at risk as I type, to fight for Beaufort, Lexton, Raglan and surrounding communities.

Malnourished, homeless, orphaned: The horrors for Gaza’s children. A nurse does ops on 6 dead pregnant women to save their babies. Rarely, if ever, has any country killed, injured & orphaned as many children as quickly as Israel is right now. My new column

The horrors of Gaza are almost unspeakable. As difficult as all this is to read and to watch, it's important the world does not look away, writes John Lyons.

Behind the growing road toll are thousands of patients living with life-changing injuries. There are currently no national statistics on how many people were seriously injured on the roads in 2023. Go inside one of the country’s busiest trauma hospitals: https://t.co/oiYPgMIhn4

So many people are rioting on the streets of Port Moresby tonight. This video is from Gerehu in the north of POM, with the warehouse of a major retailer burning down. Paramedics say they're aware of many patients with severe burns and gunshot wounds. Video: Leo Manuai

I’m in Victoria being briefed on the floods and making sure communities have what they need to recover. We know these communities are doing it tough. Some are facing their second disaster in less than two years.
