Athlete monitoring data informs decision-making for coaches, but visualization and communication are key (Robertson et al., 2017). However, without knowledge, coaches' understanding is limited. #AthleteMonitoring #CoachingTips . So is your data impactful?.

Our next study is to develop a Training load and Maturation monitoring coach learning framework for CAT 3 clubs where creating this type of environment can be more challenging due to a lack of resources.

This trans-disciplinary approach therefore may require a great amount of behaviour change such as a willingness to work together and share ideas between coaches and support staff. Our study showed that this behaviour was more often present within CAT 1 clubs.

Training load and Maturation monitoring practices should therefore be co-designed between coaches and the sports science team. Ultimately, the data should impact coaching practice otherwise what’s the point?.

Do your your sports scientists collect the data and work in silo before sending a training load and maturation report to the coaches? An environment where coaches and the sports science support team interact may enhance athletic performance and help construct knowledge.

Working in ‘silo’ can lead to a decontextualised learning environment. Our study showed that clubs that constructed a trans-disciplinary environment often had coaches with greater perceived knowledge of Training load and Maturation monitoring practices! Abstract below👇
