You might be wondering, what’s with all the fuss around the closure of Joffre Lakes Provincial Park to non-Indigenous British Columbians? . Here’s why it matters. A lot. #bcpoli

A must-read by @VaughnPalmer on the absolute mess the NDP have made of BC’s finances: .“Bailey would have us believe that the New Democrats have a plan to rein in the debt loading. But to date, I’ve seen no evidence that Eby is serious about curbing his reckless financial ways.”.

All of this is in addition to a recent 106-page agreement between the Province and the Squamish Nation, dropped right before a long weekend, affecting 33 areas of public land: .

Right before the long weekend, the BC govt dropped a 106-pg agreement w/ the Squamish Nation. It sets out 33 cultural sites (on public land), inc. rec sites at Cat Lake, Gambier Lake & in BC Parks. The Squamish say these public lands are “now back under our direct control.”.1/3

3. A repudiation of a previous agreement with the Province that would have seen BC transfer 20ha of newly-usable public land to the District, as “counter to the UNDRIP and the principle of land back.” Instead the parties will seek a transfer of this land to the Squamish Nation.

Do Squamish taxpayers know what their Mayor & Council are up to? .In late July the District of Squamish & Squamish FN signed an MOU, funded by district taxpayers, inc:.1. A Land Back Task Force to look at “what Land Back possibilities could look like in the District of Squamish.”

Those circles include BC government MLAs, who stand in the legislature to encourage non-Indigenous British Columbians to refer to themselves as ‘settlers, colonizers and uninvited guests.’.Read @ZivoAdam’s excellent piece on the new blood & soil nationalism endorsed by the left.

It is fashionable in some circles to label non-indigenous North Americans as “settlers,” mere guests on indigenous land. Who would have thought that blood-and-soil nationalism would return under the mantle of social justice?. My latest in @CityJournal.

I see the BC government’s suggested ‘settler/occupier/uninvited guest’ language is making its way into the real world, where a simple ‘no trespassing’ would suffice. Gotta love the sense of harmony David Eby’s approach has achieved 🤦‍♀️

“‘The next step will be to complete a ministerial order, which will include consultation with First Nations, and engagement with the public,’ the government news release states. The ‘public’ is just another ‘stakeholder’ now, invited to comment once the deal is largely done.”.

When asked if he supports BC’s parks being off-limits to non-Indigenous people for lengthy periods, he first broadens the scope to provincial parks generally, then says “I think that makes sense.” . So: prepare for more closures at more parks w/ this minister’s endorsement. 3/3

He defended giving the shishalh Nation veto power over 1.2 million acres of public land on the Sunshine Coast, saying “if it’s their land, they get to make decisions on it.” . Does he recognize that the vast area of land covered by the agreement is, in fact, public land?. 2/3

On the @MikeSmythNews show yesterday, while discussing my op-ed, BC’s new Indigenous Relations Minister attempted to make his government’s troubling Indigenous land use policies sound as innocuous as possible. But in doing so he made 2 key admissions:. 1/3.

This column by @GeoffRuss3, based on a study by the @AristotleFdn, explains that much of the slavery that took place in Canada was done by First Nations. No society’s history is perfect, but if we’re going to base today’s policy on past transgressions, we need to do it honestly.

One of the last slaveholders in the British Empire was a Haida Chief in 1883. Activists want a "reckoning" about slavery's history in Canada. Are they prepared for some uncomfortable truths about Indigenous cultures?. My latest for the @nationalpost.

Important piece by ⁦@tomfletcherbc⁩: .Most of the Eby govt’s land use agreements “appear to be one-off incarnations of the Land Act amendments, negotiated without public knowledge until the deal is done & the premier’s office issues a press release.”

@marissenmark I usually avoid responding to such asinine posts, but I’d ask you to point to one instance ever (and I do mean ever) when I’ve “talked down First Nations.” I’ve always directed my criticism to where it belongs: at the BC govt. See radio clip below & excerpts from prior columns.
