We have received our most recent delivery of protective equipment (PPE) at our central stores. 17 pallets containing masks and eye-wear, aprons and gloves and hand sanitiser. Ready for onward distribution to all sites – acute hospitals, primary care, GPs and out of hours centres.

Tributes have poured in for a ‘selfless and bright’ health care support worker who has passed away from COVID-19 on Monday.
Colleagues have told how mum-of-two Kirsty Jones, 41, was ‘loved by both patients and relatives’ in her 24 year career.

said a fond farewell to Neil McLaughlin who is believed to have had the longest stay in an intensive care unit in Scotland with COVID-19 (167 days). Neil thanks staff on his discharge home after a total of 195 days at the hospital.
Today Eleanor Grant, our palliative care nurse specialist at University Hospital Wishaw, accepted the George Cross from Her Majesty The Queen on behalf of the NHS in Scotland. Eleanor was named Nurse of the Year at the Scottish Health Awards 2021.
Delivery of the eagerly-awaited covid-19 vaccine has started in Lanarkshire. The first two recipients were Dr Karen Gray and Andrew Stewart from University Hospital Hairmyres. Also vaccinated today were staff from the Emergency Department and care of the elderly.

Work is well underway in preparing our covid-19 community vaccination clinics, which start on 1 February. Soldiers from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards have been helping us with the logistics and setting up the clinics.
We've reached and surpassed the milestone of 100,000 local people receiving their first dose of the covid-19 vaccine.
This means that more than 20% of the local adult population have received their first dose.

Staff at UHWishaw helped a patient to virtually meet his new great-grand daughter.
Thanks to ward staff, Alex was able to have a video chat with his daughter and two granddaughters. He was also able to meet baby Cora for the first time.
Despite living with arthritis, 98-years-young Mrs Rebecca Parker has embarked on a 100-day piano marathon for charity – to keep spirits of staff and fellow residents high in the face of lockdown restrictions.
Our hospitals are exceptionally busy. We recognise that not all families will be in a position to do this, but we are asking families with relatives in hospital who are no longer receiving treatment to consider bringing them home where appropriate to help ease current pressures.

Our chief midwife is asking visitors to our maternity unit to be respectful after staff have been subject to verbal abuse. The level of abuse has been so severe that senior midwives have decided to reduce the second visitor to two hours per day and by appointment only.
