Here's an update on NC12 as we go into the evening: 1) NC12 remains CLOSED between the Marc Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe. 2)NC12 remains CLOSED on the north end of Ocracoke. 3)NC12 has reopened at the Buxton curve. Sand & water remains on open parts of NC12, so DRIVE CAREFULLY.

UPDATE @ 1:30 p.m.: NC12 is now CLOSED at the Buxton turn (from just north of Buxton to Old Lighthouse Road due to dangerous driving conditions from ocean overwash.

UPDATE: NC12 is now also closed on Ocracoke Island between the NPS Pony Pens and the Ferry Terminal due to dangerous driving conditions caused by ocean overwash. This is in addition to NC12 being closed on Pea Island between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe.

We are expecting yet another storm system to impact the NC Coast beginning tonight and lasting through the day on Wednesday. Drive with extreme caution if using NC12 during this time, as there will likely be blown sand and water in several spots, and ocean overwash is possible.
