Donovan Mitchell on LeBron James’ Utah comments during All-Star draft - “I don’t want to be rude but I really don’t care....people have been talking s*** about me for a while...we’re not doing this to seek the approval of him.”
John Stockton is sitting nearly court side at All-Star Saturday night.

In order to pick up my credential I needed to be double vaxxed, boosted, have a negative covid test today and wear my mask.
These are just two independent facts.
Stanley Johnson was told shortly after tonight's game that he was not going to be kept on the roster and was understandably upset. But he's already proven he's a legit NBA player and will be defensively helpful. I wouldn't think he'll be teamless for very long at all.
Sure. I might end up just fine. I could also carry without symptoms and pass it to my mother who is 64 and supposed to stay with me on Friday or literally any other person who is at risk. Stop it.
All you mic-gate people are really bout to make me pop off.
THE MAN HAS BEEN BREATHING ON OUR EQUIPMENT FOR DAYS. Him playfully touching a couple mics, on a day when he was given hygiene instructions and probably washed his hands before and after IS NOT THE PROBLEM.
I'd like to thank the Utah Jazz for not making me get on another flight to Memphis tomorrow and allowing me to get some rest at home and get ready for the second round. I needed this win.
Here's my biggest problem. On national TV Shaq told Donovan Mitchell that he didn't think he could take his team to the next level...purposefully to get a reaction and to hear him say that he's motivated. Like he thought Don wasn't motivated before? That's just stupid.
Asked what he thinks about being No. 1 in ESPN power rankings, Donovan Mitchell said "I don't exactly know what a power ranking means..."
Neither do we, Don. Neither do we.
I'm told Jordan Clarkson will exercise his player option to stay with the Utah Jazz for the 2023-24 season, according to league sources.
This leaves the door open for the Jazz to extend his contract.
Donovan Mitchell on Good Morning America when asked about how he was feeling with Rudy Gobert:
"To be honest..It took a while for me to kind of cool off. I read what he said and I heard what he said. I'm glad that he's doing ok and that I'm doing well."
The Jazz players said that they knew the news of the trade before warmups and Mike Conley still wanted to go through his warmup. "Ultimate professional," THT said.
As Donovan went into the tunnel a very loud kid said “Mitchell!!!!! CAN I HAVE YOUR JERSEY??!!”
Don stopped in the tunnel, took the jersey off and flipped it up into the stands for the kid.
Clarkson behind Mitchell said “Damn, I wanted that.”
Jordan Clarkson is currently saying that the Jazz deserve four All-Stars. Don and Rudy are locks he says and he says Mike and Bojan are the sleepers that deserve it.
Donovan Mitchell on the the flight on Tuesday and moving forward: “I know I have a job to do and it comes with the job...I took the time I needed to just get myself mentally in the right place...I just needed to take that time.”
You know what, reading through the comments on social media and elsewhere about Donovan Mitchell, reading what fans are saying about him, it’s honestly just really sad.
It’s sad that it was so draining on him to just speak up for things like equity and justice and his experience
"You can't cry" is a toxic mantra that continues to be perpetuated. God forbid someone cares or doesn't subscribe to societal versions of what emotions people are allowed to have. It's honestly just sucks that it's 2022 and we're still shaming people for having emotions.
"It is common sense that if a vaxxed or unvaxxed player is tested less frequently, the likelihood of a player being pulled for COVID drops dramatically."
You've got to be kidding me.
Is this really what we’re doing? What about every player that switched onto him at some point? We should stop treating Gobert like patient zero, cause that’s not the situation at all. Even if Serge has tested positive there’s absolutely no way to know who or where from
Toronto’s Serge Ibaka has tested negative for coronavirus, sources tell
@TheAthleticNBA
@Stadium
. Ibaka defended Rudy Gobert throughout Jazz-Raptors game Monday, leading to testing of Toronto players Wednesday night.
Will Hardy: "I'll steal some of your questions. Yes that first play was designed for Walker, Yes he bullied me into it after All-Star weekend....Yes I might have created a monster."
Georges Niang was shooting yesterday when approached by Dennis Lindsey. Georges thought he was getting traded and started to panic. Then Dennis told him his college teammate Matt Thomas was coming to be his Jazz teammate and Georges was very very happy.
Gobert - "We have to realize we haven't accomplished s***. We get upset when people laugh at us on TV and disrespect us but it's on us to have respect for ourselves and understand that we're not the not the champions. We are not a team that can just cruise."
The following players were voted an All-Star starter BY PLAYERS: Ed Davis, Zylan Cheatham, Johnathan Motley, Soloman Hill, Drew Eubanks, Jared Vanderbilt, Juwan Morgan, Chimezie Metu, Jordan Bell, Harry Giles III, Jarrell Brantley, Mario Hezonja, Mike Muscala.
There are a lot of problems with all-star starter voting but especially this. There are a ton of players that don't even take it seriously. There vote counts for 25 percent of the result and I've personally watched them just pick random names to write down in the past.
I’ve been in the position before of defending great players who are not great people. This isn’t that.
@spidadmitchell
was as good as they come and I was glad to cover him.
A charter flight carrying members of the Utah Jazz has landed back in Salt Lake City, league sources tell ESPN. It is immediately unclear if Rudy Gobert or Donovan Mitchell were on the flight from Oklahoma City. Both All-Stars have tested positive for the coronavirus.
LIFE NEWS: I’m incredibly excited to announce that I’ll be joining the
@DeseretNews
as the Utah Jazz beat writer. Can’t wait to hit the ground running and get to know SLC!
The Jazz went from being asset dry and in the luxury tax with a team that wasn't winning to having a long list of young players with huge potential and an even longer list of draft picks.
Seriously so frustrating to hear that the team has been quarantined and that there are national reporters being fed information about their traveling abilities while no one has told the writers that are in the building anything concrete at all about our own safety.
Maybe one of the most interesting things that's been said over the past few weeks is the Jazz talking about how much more prepared they are for the playoffs than they were before and then Bojan today saying that "there are weapons we've been saving for the playoffs."
Tomorrow the 22-23 NBA season begins. I started covering the Warriors 10 years ago. I then covered the Sixers, now the Jazz. With hard work & a lot of luck I’ve been able to be around the most beautiful game in the world & write some stories about it. Here’s to another 10 years.
Jordan Clarkson said meant a lot to get the 6MoY award from Joe Ingles who he’s very close to. Said they drink so many beers together on off days should come out with their own beer. Said he might have to buy a house in Australia to post up on the beach and drink in the summer
Again...great news to hear second hand.
I, as well as the other reporters, could walk out of the arena right now and get on a flight and no one would stop us. The fact that we are still here is out of concern for our own safety and that of our families
The Jazz will need to coordinate with Oklahoma and Salt Lake City public health organizations before they can return to Utah, per sources. For now, the team is quarantined in OKC.
Listen, I know I cover the Jazz and that makes me a little bias because I watch him play every game...but if you don't like Jordan Clarkson, you don't like basketball
Quin on Bojan: "what Bojan did should not go unnoticed. I mean, he epitomized — when you talk about a warrior...the way that he played on both ends of the floor."
"Definitely in shock...This hurts more than last year, because we were up again and lost again. This is going to eat at me for a long time watching the Clippers and Suns play in the WCF...even when I go to the grocery store I'll be thinking about this." — Donovan Mitchell
Gobert also said that he hopes the Jazz are able to get back to where they were and that he loves it in Utah, thought he would spend all of his career here. But he’s happy that he gets to have a chance to see what works somewhere else.
Getting Hendricks at 9 just seems like such a win for the Jazz.
Again I'll say that a Western Conference exec said this to me at the combine — "“The Thompson twins are going to be the best athletes in any room they step into...Unless Taylor Hendricks is also in that room.”
Jordan Clarkson came into the interview room and said "You want me to spell my name for you guys?"
Laughs all around.
Also urges fans to get vaccinated or tested or else they're missing the best show in town.
Gobert said that he tried to convince Donovan Mitchell to get on the Jazz's second flight on Tuesday but said that there's no reason to judge anyone for how they react to something traumatic or to force them to be uncomfortable.
The reality of the situation: I do not have a chartered flight, no one has told any of the traveling media that we are quarantined. We’re basically self quarantined right now waiting for information on how to move forward. We absolutely are all scared because we’ve been exposed
I am very happy to be home. Really huge thanks to
@SpencerJCox
and the state of Utah for working with the
@utahjazz
to get me back to SLC. The support of everyone has been really wonderful. Now it’s time for a nap.
It should not go overlooked at how effective Jordan Clarkson has been in this series. No matter what happens to the Jazz, he showed up for the playoffs.
Donovan Mitchell said that Fox was jawing at the ref after the game and he stepped in because they've been friends since high school and the competition was over so he didn't want to see him fined for no reason after the game.
Donovan Mitchell on The Zone - “Some people don’t understand what’s 30 minutes down the street, so seeing other speak about certain issues…being black in this country is a job.”
“As a prominent black man in this state is my job to speak for those who don’t feel they have a voice…it’s no secret there aren’t many of us here…I want to continue to use my platform to speak on issues.”
Donovan Mitchell on Izzy Tichenor:
“You were told…you were told. I can’t imagine what her family is going through…you go to school to learn and to become something you dream of…now a child that had hopes and dreams isn’t with us.”
I know you guys don't want to hear this, but it's not my job to sugarcoat things.
There were less people in FedEx Forum tonight than in Vivint and they were many many times louder than the Viv crowd.
It's been a very long time since I've seen a player go around the court and egg on the crowd to keep them cheering. I forgot what that was like. Donovan. Mitchell.
I can imagine there's a lot going on. He probably only just found out about the lizard people and the lies about the shape of our world. That's a lot to take in.
I have nothing that would confirm any reports about the Jazz showing interest in a certain player out of Charlotte.
But I will say this — any team that’s willing to turn a blind eye to repeated violence against women is a stain on the NBA and an embarrassment of a franchise.
