It’s
#BlackHoleWeek
, a special week where we celebrate black holes! Join us as we dive into all things new and cool about these intriguing objects … figuratively, of course. We don’t want to jump into a black hole, so instead, we’ll meet you at the event horizon.
🌸A pink Moon is on its way.
Many cultures name full moons to mark the passage of time. Pink flowers coming into bloom in the northern hemisphere lend their name to the April full moon. This full moon also marks the start of Passover.

This Earth Day, NASA invites you to share a

We saw the Moon block the Sun last week in a spectacular sky show. Continue your lunar observations and looking up with International Observe the Moon Night.

You might have seen the April 8 eclipse from our own planet. Well, here's what it looked like from the Moon.
Our Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which has been at the Moon for nearly 15 years, turned towards Earth to capture the Moon's shadow.

On International Day of
#HumanSpaceFlight
, we celebrate the stellar feats of the past and look to the future. The era of human spaceflight began today in 1961 when Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space.
Looking ahead, we're going back to the Moon with

Today,

Whose big day is it?
💎 Diamonds are a natural satellite's best friend.
Just moments before totality on April 8, sunlight will peek through the Moon's jagged, cratered edge, causing phenomena called Baily's Beads and the diamond ring effect.
The Moon is a rugged world of peaks & craters. Since it's so bumpy, the shadow it casts is not quite round. Topography data from our Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter helps solar eclipse mappers predict exactly where the Moon's shadow will fall.
Ever wonder why solar eclipses don’t happen more often? The Moon’s orbit is tilted by ~5 degrees compared to Earth’s orbit around the Sun. Most of the time, the Moon’s shadow misses our planet.

If you're looking forward to the

on Monday, you have the Moon to thank. It's only due to the Moon blocking the Sun that we can observe and learn more of the solar corona. Here's all you need to know about the Moon's role in the eclipse.
