Great day in the woods at Cumming Nature Center with Naples 7th graders and their 9th grade mentors. It might've been rainy, but we still had a great time building fires & friendships! @rocRMSC @NaplesCSD

Check out the difference between these models- same @NaplesCSD student applying new understanding! Thanks Rodolfo and @getrealscience for the FANTASTIC Medical Mentor video explaining how Cholera affects our bodies! #COVIDXUs

These @NaplesCSD scientists found that a cloth mask could only withstand 6 “sneezes”. The surgical masks still haven’t let any water through though! @getrealscience #COVIDxUS

Much of NY is experiencing a gypsy moth outbreak this summer. #GypsyMoths are non-native but naturalized, meaning they’ll always be in NY. Outbreaks occur every 10-15 yrs but are usually ended by disease or predators. This is an unfortunate but cyclical part of NY's #forests.

Comparative anatomy this week for @NaplesCSD 7th graders! We better look deeper at structures & functions through dissection if we're going to find out why lampricide only affect lamprey and not trout! #MWEE

#MyOpenSciEdStory Things I love! 1. S’s learn scientific modeling that allows deep&complex explanations 2. Developing S centered language: “the intestines have magic doors that absorb triage” 3. S’s get to draw&talk about poop!

"If we’re not having these conversations in schools, students are often left to listening to alternative facts or conspiracy theories on social media or hearing things in their own home that might not be accurate."—Shaun Nelms || @DrNelms @EastEpo @URCUES

"Even though respiratory droplets come out when you're wearing a mask they come out more when you don't, so it's always a good thing to wear a mask so you don't spread COVID faster than it is spreading right now." #COVIDxus

A huge thank you to our Medical Mentor, Dr Gero from URMC. @NaplesCSD 7th graders asked thoughtful questions like, why are people who are white less likely to get COVID than other ethnicities? 🤔 #COVID is

"I did an experiment where I sprayed a mask with water inside and outside. Inside it went about 15in, outside it went 2in farther than it did outside. This means that respiratory droplets go farther outside than inside. Stay 6 feet away!" #COVIDxus @naplescsd

How do preventers and spreaders of COVID-19 use and evaluate evidence and information differently? Here's what @NaplesCSD scientists say. #COVIDxus

"I did an experiment about air & how it affects respiratory droplets & an air conditioning unit in school can send droplets 92in up. I also sprayed water in front of a fan & it went over 12 feet. So fans are dangerous when we people breathe in front of them" @naplescsd #COVIDxus

Science and activism intersecting at Naples. 10th graders spent the day scheming... how can we safely have the Grape Fest, more people at sports events, and Lynnie Lou's open year round in spite of a pandemic? COVID connects us! https://t.co/lELz1QMKyw
