I'm reading Sharon McMahon's wonderful book The Small and the Mighty and don't want to forget this line: “One becomes great because of who they lift up, not who they put down.” In casting your vote this election season, this seems as good a criteria as any for whom to support.

I had no money growing up. My dad was a labourer and my mum did everything to make ends meet. Men worked hard. Women worked miracles. But education was free. As was the local library. I knew books were my passport to a better life. #SupportLibraries

Come to think of it, denigrating the worth of a soldier’s service based on whether he deployed to a war zone is… kind of like denigrating the worth of a woman’s citizenship based on whether she happens to have children.

For the past 6 months, World Central Kitchen has been one of the chief suppliers of food in Gaza — providing over 43 million meals to Palestinians. The group has now suspended operations in Gaza after 7 aid workers were killed by an Israeli airstrike.

In St. Louis, police rammed a car into a gay bar and then arrested the owner. The police's felony charge has already been reduced to a misdemeanor by the prosecutor. The owner is now out — but "had been in the city jail for approximately 36 hours."
