As well as participating in workshops, our teachers also visited multiple memorial sites across the region – including the State Museums at the former sites of Bełżec, Sobibór and Majdanek extermination camps – and reflected on how best to share their knowledge in the classroom.

Teachers from across the UK participated in our Advanced Teacher Training Course in partnership with @yadvashem International School for Holocaust Studies and Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre, a cultural institution in the city of Lublin.

The majority of Day 6 was spent in the ‘House of Words’ in Lublin. A simply marvellous place with a rich history and a multitude of love and skills! We even got to print our own tote bags ❤️ #TeacherCPD @HolocaustUK 🇵🇱 📚

Last full day (Day 6) of the Advanced Teacher Training course with @HolocaustUK and @grodzkagate - we explored the “These are my last words” resources and associated pedagogy from @yadvashemschool and themes of “Return to life” and liberation. #TeacherCPD 🇵🇱 🍎

Day 5 concluded with a visit to the deportation memorial in Lublin before returning to the @grodzkagate for a conversation with the Director and an evocative performance of “Tales of the Night”; a sublime reflective piece on traces of memory. #TeacherCPD @HolocaustUK 🇵🇱 🍎

Day 5 of the @HolocaustUK Advanced Teacher training course began with a visit to @MajdanekMuseum where we had a talk about the educational initiatives and approaches from the education dept before a visit to the museum; an informative and emotional experience. #TeacherCPD 🇵🇱 🍎

This afternoon we ended our tour following ‘Operation Reinhardt’ at the location of the former death camp at Bełżec. A strange space which poured its horrific history into its stark and grim memorial. @HolocaustUK #TeacherCPD 🇵🇱 🍎

Day 4 of the @HolocaustUK course was personally very difficult. Finally got to visit the town of Jósefów, a once thriving Polish shtetl where we attempted to shine a light on its past life to then facing the bleakness of its associated site of mass murder. #TeacherCPD 🇵🇱 🪨 🌹

Day 3 back in Lublin & the Grodzka Gate on the @HolocaustUK Advanced Teacher course. 2 fascinating walking tours exploring Jewish Lublin and ‘Operation Reinhardt’ in addition to time spent at the Gate attending workshops/seminars looking at pedagogical approaches. #TeacherCPD 🇵🇱

Day 2 concluded with discussions and reflections after visiting the city of Chełm; a city which was once home to a vibrant Jewish community with a rich Yiddish and Hebrew culture reduced to merely a dozen or so Jews at the end of the war. @HolocaustUK #TeacherCPD 🇵🇱 🍎

Day 2 of the Advanced Teacher Training course in Lublin began with a sobering visit to Sobibór. Interesting discussions were had about the politics of memory and how/if this space effectively memorialises/educates about its victims of the Holocaust. @HolocaustUK #TeacherCPD 🇵🇱 🍎

Day 1 ended with a tour of the old city exploring the signs and reminders of Lublin’s once-thriving Jewish community, the topography of the ghetto and memorialisation. A fascinating day ended with some entertainment and free time to explore! @HolocaustUK #TeacherCPD 🇵🇱 🍎
