Of all the ones they came up with, this one feels the most challenging and maybe the most rewarding. How many of us Ts struggle here, particularly with our own self talk? πββοΈ @LPELeaders #myroommessage

Mission statement. Really proud of them for these ideas and the inclusive process that led to the creation of the final version. #myroommessage @LPELeaders @TheLeaderinMe

Universal design! The adults were using it too! (With much joy and laughter.)
Check out our new sensory path! Thank you Mrs. Fisher for setting this up for our students! #Empower #TeachingIsOurSuperpower

Make it about them, for them, by them. Empower them to take ownership by practicing humility. #myroommessage @LPELeaders

Day one. Nothing is more important than the community, relationships, and people at the center of our work. #myroommessage @LPELeaders

Thank you, @krdrury. Happy and honored (though nervous) to have had the opportunity. There was so much great learning and conversation in the room. Looking forward to an #empowered year! @LPELeaders

Same. Icebreakers are the worst since there is often no escape. They are typically so draining that I spend most of the PD session recovering, avoiding the spotlight as much as possible. I do some good processing but rarely contribute.
This. As we begin planning back to school - remember that those βfunβ games and icebreakers can have a negative impact on students and adults. As an introvert, these activities give me much angst.

Nothing more important than the people in the room. Content can wait. Besides, you'll never get to meaningful content without first creating meaningful community.
βWe will learn a lot of important things this year. But there is nothing more important than the people in the room, so we will begin each day with the people in the room. We will learn each other.β This is how I introduce Smiles and Frowns to my kids on day one. #PeopleFirst

At the start of each school year, looking out at the fresh faces of my new students, I give my inaugural speech. I tell them about myself β my family, my Starbucks habit and my love of books. I share...

S me cries with recognition. T me hears this as a call. Honor the student first. All things in nature bloom in their time, in their way. Our students do, too. We would no sooner replace the whole variety of flowers with only roses - no matter how pretty some find them.
America's public school curriculum is bloated with minutiae. Itβs designed for test-taking, not life beyond the classroom. My latest article. Dear School, Eff Your βFβ

Seriously good. The artwork is incredible. I need some lighter material after the last couple of titles...

Finished this one a couple days ago. So very good, made better by the author's note at the end about the creation of the book and the color palette. Not for 5th graders. The adult in me is finding some awesome new reading material.

The summer of graphic novels (#graphicsummer?) continues. This one is def. not going in a 5th grade classroom due to language but it was a great read. A beautiful example of how understanding the art is needed to understand the story.

Worth every minute. Can't decide if it is going on a 5th grade shelf, but it absolutely should be in classrooms.
