You have a mass shooting every single day in your country, your murder rate is many times that of the UK, your healthcare system is a disgrace, you can’t pass anything through a congress that you control. I would focus on that.
.
@Theresa_May
, don’t focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!
My thoughts and love are with David’s family. They are all that matter now. This brings everything back. The pain, the loss, but also how much love the public gave us following the loss of Jo. I hope we can do the same for David now.
Trump has legitimised the far right in his own country, now he’s trying to do it in ours. Spreading hatred has consequences & the President should be ashamed of himself.
Feel a bit sick at Jo’s name being used in this way. The best way to honour Jo is for all of us (no matter our views) to stand up for what we believe in, passionately and with determination. But never to demonise the other side and always hold onto what we have in common.
Six years ago today the person we loved most in the world was taken from us. Our family’s wish is that on this day we remember what we have in common, even with those we might disagree with. And to emphasise what connects us rather than what divides us.
#MoreInCommon
Weird thing to do on Christmas Eve but I’d encourage everyone to take a moment to imagine losing the person you love most in the world. Imagine what you would wish you had said to them. Then take a moment to say it.
Tomorrow is Jo’s anniversary. The kids & I will remember her love, enthusiasm & excitement. We’ll focus on the time we had with her, not our loss. I hope the country continues to build on her belief that we have
#MoreInCommon
. We need that now more than ever.
I would far rather read about Jack’s life than the terrorists. Jack sounds like an extraordinary young man, someone we should learn from and celebrate.
Yes, yes and yes again. When Jo was killed I vowed the same. I have often genuinely forgotten the person’s name and my kids have never heard it. Notoriety is such an important driver for terrorists and we should all get better at denying them it.
Last night we celebrated Jo, danced until the morning, drank too much (me not the kids) & raised over £1000 to help refugees in our community. It was the best way to celebrate Jo. Thanks so much for all the love & kindness yesterday.
Polite request to
@BBCNews
on behalf of our family. I’d love it if each time you mention Jo you didn’t feel the urge to name and link to the biography of the person who killed her.
Ten years ago today Jo& I got married in Knoydart, one of the wildest places in Scotland. There are no roads so we came by fishing boat with our family & stayed in the bothy. There’s not a day that goes by that I’m not grateful for our time together & how happy we made eachother.
My son has been elected to the school council and is visiting the House of Commons in January. I’m finding it hard to deal with Jo not being there to welcome them. She would have loved it.
The day before the election in 2015 Jo, the kids and me were knocking on doors mobilising the vote. Jo met a Tory who was thinking about not voting. She urged them to vote because even though it made her election less likely, voting was more important. Please vote.
Thank you for everyone’s kindness today. I’m back to the school run now and not doing any more interviews for a bit. About to tell the kids about the debate so it doesn’t surprise them if someone mentions it. Not sure where to start.
The end of a decade. One in which I had two incredible children, but lost their mum & my best friend. Nothing will take away the pain of losing Jo but in her name I pledge to do all I can to help make 2020 a decade of reconnection where we celebrate what we have in common.
The dreams when Jo is alive again are the hardest. Those fleeting seconds when you wake up and think it’s all ok. And then the realisation. Sending love to everyone living with grief x
Today I took the kids to see ‘Place Jo Cox’ in Brussels in the area Jo used to go drinking &dancing when she lived here. The kids were really touched& then ran around the place madly playing with friends. Exactly how she would like them to be. Thanks to all who made it happen.
The facts seem undeniable:
1) there was no threat to the cenotaph
2) some politicians cynically decided to say there was to stoke a culture war
3) their words activated far right thugs who committed large scale violence against the police.
There must be accountability for this
Last time the kids and I sat in the gallery
@HouseofCommons
it was to listen to tributes to Jo a week after she was killed. Today it was to watch the swearing in of
@kimleadbeater
. We are all very proud of her x
Absolutely vile intimidation of
@Keir_Starmer
this evening. No politician should have to put up with it. And all politicians have a responsibility not to encourage such thuggery with lazy lies.
If Jo were here she would be telling us not to mourn but to organise. If you care about the future of the Labour Party join or rejoin it now and help bring it back to its senses.
Would you like to explain that to my kids?
You don’t have to choose between far right & Islamist terrorism. You can & should condemn both. They are driven by the same hatred of difference & superiority.
Our country is best when it stands together against extremism in all forms
When Islamists attack we rightly ask who has radicalised them. When far right terrorists attack we too often fail to ask the same question. Perhaps because it implicates people whose names we all know.
Jess is leaving the job she loved. A role she could do better than anyone else. Because of a principle she believed in. Agree or disagree she deserves respect for her choice.
I hope she comes back as soon as possible
From our family today. “We all miss Jo every day. Her energy, warmth, passion, humour and love. She looked for and believed in the best of people and the best of our country, for what unites us, rather than where we disagree.
This is vile. If he slurred a Jewish politician because of their identity he would be sacked and rightly so. Islamophobia isn’t any more acceptable than antisemitism and the PM should act.
Conservative MP Lee Anderson tells GB News that he thinks Sadiq Khan has "given our capital city away" to Islamists, who are "his mates".
"Islamists have got control of Khan and they’ve got control of London," he says.
One of the awful things about losing Jo is knowing how much difference she would have made in the world. When the kids wake up this morning I’m going to tell them how - even though she’s not here - she’s still making the world a better place.
I dislike
@Nigel_Farage
‘s politics profoundly. His willingness to pander to hatred &division even more so. But I don’t think throwing stuff at politicians you disagree with is a good idea. It normalises violence &intimidation and we should consistently stand again it.
We are all incredibly proud of
@kimleadbeater
today and Jo would have been too. While the result between the two main parties was close the extremists & haters were left trailing. The people of Batley & Spen have voted for decency and positivity once again.
Just to reiterate this is about the role we all play. Just as ‘surrender’ & ‘betrayal’ is inflammatory language, so is ‘coup’ and ‘fascist’. Let’s all play our part in dialing it down.
Another year passes since we lost Jo - but her memory doesn’t fade. It sharpens. Tonight we will all be together to celebrate her life & the legacy she has left. Her
#MoreInCommon
message is more important than ever, please be part of sharing it
If you think it’s sick & absurd that this terrorist claims to act on behalf of white people/christians, well that’s how the vast majority of Muslims feel when an extremist claims to act in the name of Islam.
Jo & I used to make a dozen New Year’s resolutions each year- with mixed results. This year I’m resolving to do my bit to build closer communities, tackle polarisation & fight hatred & extremism in all its forms.
"Nigel Farage received £548,573 in 2018 from Russia Today" according to
@RhonddaBryant
- is that true? That's an insanely large amount of money to take from the Russian state.
Right. Two days to the childcare challenge of the decade. Could really do with my partner in crime to share it with, but going to try and make her proud.
Why are parts of the left so reluctant to support strict immigration rules? Rules on immigration aren’t right wing, they are an essential part of a functioning state & part of the basis for social solidarity. We should embrace them and also celebrate the contribution of migrants.
Anniversaries are strange things. I guess as the years go by the anniversary of Jo’s death will become more significant but our family feels our loss everyday& today just feels like another day with our family incomplete & Jo’s joyful presence missing. Life still feels muted.
As I go to bed with my kids safe close by I am thinking about those families who will not sleep tonight. For whom pointless terror has changed everything forever and for whom today will always be a date seared with pain. I wish I had faith so I could pray for them.
The decision to abandon Afghanistan is shameful. At moments like this I most miss Jo’s voice in Parliament. If she were here she would be demanding we live up to our responsibility to protect civilians, many of whom we have put in harms way. We are betraying our own ideals.
If a high profile journalist accused a Jewish political leader as having “infiltrated our system” or branded them “the first minister of Israel” they would be sacked for antisemitism. As they should be. Just because he’s talking about a Muslim doesn’t make it any more acceptable
Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for “peanuts,” only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!
There are few things better than seeing your kids beam with joy when you turn up at their Christmas concert. And few things worse than knowing it will only ever be one of you.

The moment I invite President Trump to be Arsenal's new manager - because he'd build a strong defensive wall, have an attacking philosophy & want to win big trophies at all costs.
See his hilarious response on Sunday night, ITV, 10pm.

Love the fact that this is trending

and think we all owe a debt of gratitude to
@realDonaldTrump
for reminding us of the values that unite us and distinguish us from him.
Thank you to everyone who has sent their support today, especially to all the Americans - including republicans -who have reached out to say Trump doesn’t represent the views and values of your great country.
Just went for a curry. Looked at the menu but in the end I decided to stay neutral on the choices in front of me. Waiter currently misunderstanding my maturity for indecisiveness and getting a bit annoyed.
Our brave police officers deserve the thanks of every decent citizen for their professionalism in the face of violence and aggression from protesters and counter protesters in London yesterday. That multiple officers were injured doing their duty is an outrage. 1/3
Most people know
@eddieizzard
as a comedian, but I know him as someone who behind the scenes&with great personal kindness helped our family make good on Jo’s legacy. Week in week out- & very far from the spotlight- he puts in the hours standing up for the values that unite us.
#KTHopkins
was an invention of media and social media companies who know that controversy drives engagement. They realised too late that they were trading in hate & that hate has consequences. Better late than never - but never would have been better.
Thank you to the makers of
#BrexitTheUncivilWar
for treating Jo’s murder with respect. Please remember that while Jo was a passionate remainer she was far more committed to reminding us of what we have in common. Whatever happens now - that will be the most important mission.
One week ago today. While the news agenda has moved on, the families of Jack and Saskia will be stuck in time. Remembering them today and sending love.
This morning I remember the feeling the day after. The moment you remember as you wake, the disbelief, the agony, the complete absence of energy, the impotence to change anything, the hopelessness. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
Unpopular opinion of the day: I think if I had been seriously ill with corona (as opposed to the mild version I had) I would have done anything to make sure my kids were safe and being looked after. I get the anger at the hypocrisy but I also get the human judgement they made.
