I think that for those of us of a certain age it’s hard to believe it’s 40 years since we watched Live Aid. For me it’s as hard to comprehend that it is the same gap from now to Live Aid as it was from then to the end of World War 2. Very strange.

My older son , David and his new bride, Jade at their wedding at Kinkell Byre , near St Andrews, on Saturday. Such a beautiful day, full of great memories.

How did we get from this ( Summer 1998) to just now, with older son getting married in 10 days and younger son having just moved out with his girlfriend. Empty Nest syndrome kicking in for sure.

40 yrs ago today I started working in the NHS. I look back on my time there fondly and on my colleagues with huge respect. For those still working there these two recent clips from the Sunday Times put it into context, esp the Tom Calver article.

Another great day , with the Book Festival at the old RIE, and then the excellent and ingenious Umbilical Brothers. They really are a must see!.
