Contrary to Trump's assurances, @DHSgov doesn't extend status or work permits of Ukrainian war refugees, manufacturing roughly 250 new "illegal aliens" per day - out of people whose alternative is to go back to live under shelling and missile strikes.

Sasha had only heard a little about South Carolina, and even less about the town of Hartsville, when he and his family moved there in September 2022.

That said, Michael was never big on sharing his creative process, he would have probably gone the same route of Ushers praising the album, down to the pointless TikTok crap. So I'll give them a point for doing it in his spirit.

I wish it was more a Genesis of Thriller, less The Legend of Thriller. I get it's for the public, but Thriller is famous enough that the public will want to see deeper than cliched accolades. People suffered through 8 hrs of Get Back, they'll want to see the making of Thriller.

A bit talking-head heavy for my taste, esp. those who are only there for the name and had nothing to do with the project. And even project participants gave high-level commentary with little insight. (John Landis is the exception. He's a storyteller and a highlight of the doc.)

Thriller 40 I give it a solid 4 out of 5. The archival footage is, of course, what carries it. For me the high point was The Girl Is Mine session. Nothing beats footage of Michael's recording process.

"The Toy" 🧵 In December 1984, while testifying in a court case, Michael revealed that he'd written a song called "The Toy" for the Richard Pryor movie of the same name, but that he "canned it" to focus on the Thriller album. "The Toy" wasn't considered for inclusion on Thriller.

This song was inspired by the Richard Pryor film of the same title. After not making the cut for the Thriller album, Michael continued to work on the song and it ultimately evolved into "Best of Joy”. The original incarnation is now being released. https://t.co/X9oMHEZPen

We won at the California Supreme Court! https://t.co/cReP4NgLHp The court ruled that "Sony’s album-back promise and video are commercial advertising" which is not shielded from consumer-protection laws by the First Amendment. Meanwhile, the case has been amicably resolved.

@DamienShields @redpillrich I still don’t understand why they’re fighting this. Fine, you were hoodwinked into believing they were MJ by a third party (allegedly). Once it’s established they’re fake, just remove them! It’s not like that album was even a big seller.

@DamienShields It would have been so easy to have said "Since there's doubts about the attribution and vocals, we'll be removing those songs in further editions of the album and all of the streaming services". And we all would've been happy. But no, they chose to waster resources and money.

Lawyer for Sony and the MJ Estate, Zia Modabber: “The identity of the artist is part and parcel of the art. It imparts meaning to the art.” He explains it was necessary for Sony to attribute 3 fake songs to Jackson, because without that false attribution they’d be meaningless.

Lawyer Zia Modabber is currently arguing, on behalf of Sony, that consumers must continue to enjoy the freedom to buy fake songs, marketed as real songs, and it would be unconstitutional to deny them that right. Yes, really. C
