H.E.
@PeterObi
paid me a visit yesterday morning at my residence in Abuja. I was very glad to receive him. We discussed the state of the nation and his aspiration to lead our country from 2023. I have always enjoyed a warm fraternal relationship with “Okwute”. We collaborated
What I saw, past, present and future, that made me decide to exit partisan politics in Nigeria completely: We aren’t ready for real democracy. Too much poverty &the financial corruption it enables. Too many evil, powerful vested interests. Weak institutions. Illiterate electorate
@PeterObi
‘s indication of his plan, if elected President, to restore the ( presently mortgaged) independence of
@cenbank
and support the abolition of multiple exchange rates is good economic thinking. I agree. And I know investors (local and foreign) will, too.
I was very disappointed to view the video clip of H.E. Atiku Abubakar
@atiku
, a former Vice-President of Nigeria, telling an audience in Kaduna that what the North needs is a northerner to be President, and not a Yoruba or Igbo candidate.
Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information of Nigeria: “...We have a country to rule...” in his statement earlier “suspending”
@Twitter
operations in Nigeria.
Hon. Minister, a gentle correction: “We have a country to GOVERN...”.
A government in a democracy should govern, not “rule”
It’s my birthday today. I thank God for the gift of life, another year on earth, & His many blessings-health, parents who taught me values, a wonderful wife,lovely children, a successful global and national career-a life of impact & consequence! So far. Chukwu Dalu.
I’m running for President of Nigeria. I’m not waiting for anyone to (fake) “call on me”, or until the presidency is zoned to anywhere. I’m running on a vision, not on ethnic identity politics. I’m as good as anyone in Nigeria, north or south, to be President.
If you thought 1999 and 2015 were the mothers of all elections in Nigeria, wait for 2023. It will be existential. 2023 has two defining features. First, the rise of the youth makes it the first real contest on the ground between their aspirations and the status quo ante bellum.
From the standpoint of economic transformation, presidential candidate
@PeterObi
has a strong, even if controversial point: that the economy cannot be driven just by (physical) infrastructure. The foundation of economic transformation is human development (social infrastructure).
The "drip lord"
@58
. I thank God for another year, and for His mercy and many blessings. Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent God, the Ancient of Days. Creator of heaven and earth, Giver of life and the Shaper of destinies, take all honor, and glory. Amen.
Three Gbosas to
@NigeriaGov
Minister of Mines and Steel, Olamilekan Adegbite, who has emerged as my favorite Minister in the administration of President
@MBuhari
, for reportedly declining to give
@Tesla
a license to mine lithium in Nigeria unless the company establishes a battery
I congratulate my friend and brother
@PeterObi
on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party. I look forward to meeting him on the presidential campaign terrain on behalf of
@ADCNig
and, as with other contestants, to a keen debate on the future of our country
As someone who has been a leading voice for our youth and a Third Force approach to Nigeria’s democracy, I believe PO’s candidacy is a welcome development.
Nigeria is not failing because of "global" conditions such as
#COVID19
or "global inflation" or the war in Ukraine. These are mere excuses. We are failing because of bad, incompetent governance, & the industrial level of corruption in our public sector.We are a kleptocratic state
Accountant-General of the Federation accused of N80 billion fraud. Removed (but not prosecuted and jailed if guilty). Acting AGF for a few weeks (only!) now fired on allegations of fraud. Over 20 people now jostling to become AGF (or Acting AGF!) . Chai. Wahala dey for Naija!
Too many scams & scammers in Nigerian politics.Whether it is poverty, or a collapse of values, one is not sure. Not sure because some of the scammers are people who are not exactly begging for food, but have depraved mindsets that worship money. Is poverty then really the cause?
I predict
@KwankwasoRM
will win majority of Kano votes in the presidential election.
@officialABAT
will likely win in Lagos, and
@PeterObi
will likely win in Rivers. Three of the four most populous voting states in Nigeria.This scenario leaves the election outcome uncertain.
Arrived the 6th floor today. Thank God for His love and tender mercies these past 60 years. “ You have anointed my head with oil. My cup runneth over. Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23.
A mighty wind will blow in Nigeria in 2023. Let Nigerians rise up peacefully and declare their real “independence” and ownership of our country and our destiny as a people at the ballot box. We are God’s children too. We deserve our place in the sun. We should thrive, not suffer.
2023: I WILL RUN BECAUSE WE THE PEOPLE MATTER
1. What is the value of a Nigerian life?
2. We live daily today under the shadow of terrorists. Our economy is collapsing. Many families cannot afford the price of food. Millions of young men and women have no jobs and have no hope
I fully support the
@cenbank
redesign of the Naira. If 80% of bank notes in circulation are outside the banks, that's troubling. The CBN obviously wants to force all those notes back into the banking system. Those with the notes must surrender to get new ones or else it becomes
My take on the election outcome:
1. Without prejudice to whoever would have won,
@inecnigeria
‘s performance was woeful. The institution and election management in Nigeria need a complete overhaul. Elections must be made logistically efficient and transparent.
Finance Minister Zainab Ahmed’s comment to
@nassnigeria
that she was not aware of the Naira redesign by
@cenbank
should not mislead anyone into thinking the CBN owes her that kind of information. The Bank only needs the approval of President
@MBuhari
for this particular exercise.
There is a problem when law enforcement and the military in a country are far more efficient in killing and brutalizing citizens than in combating crime and terrorism. We can't whitewash this foundational issue. It's a fundamental failure of governance.

#LekkiMassacre
Only the youth of Nigeria can build a real nation out of Nigeria. A vast majority of young Nigerians don't care about what tribe their friends come from. It's the older generations that are steeped in ethnic distrust and profiling. Many of them simply can't change their prejudice
My vision of Nigeria is of the Southeast as Singapore, the North like Dubai, the South-South like Norway, and the Southwest like Germany. A new truly federal Constitution with a regional structure for our country can create the incentives for this to become reality in 40 yrs.
When I ran for President in 2019 I ran as a Nigerian candidate for the Nigerian presidency, not as an “Igbo” candidate. In 2023, I intend to run again as a Nigerian, not an ethnic candidate. No apologies. I am a proud Nigerian and a proud Igbo, but my vision transcends ethnicity.
Let’s not forget that during the presidency of
@GEJonathan
today’s President
@MBuhari
protested on the streets. No one shot him. Peaceful protest should not be met with arbitrary killings of protesters.
#EndSARS
We have two tribes only in Nigeria: the politicians and the people. On both sides, you will find Christians/Muslims, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Fulani, Tiv, Ijaw and every other tribe either enjoying illicitly acquired public funds, or suffering together from insecurity and poverty.
Reports of the discovery in Nigeria of "Covid warehouses" with palliatives on which billions of naira were budgeted and spent, hoarded and undisbursed to citizens, tells us that much about "governance" in our country is simply a glorified criminal enterprise.
Nigeria is a country of young people controlled by less than 1000 old men and less than 50 women. It's not a crime to be old. But it's an issue to be old and visionless. It is the age of one's ideas that really matters.
#ColonizetheFuture
Things are so bad in Nigeria today that whoever becomes our next President -no matter the party- will have no choice but to try (and be seen) to improve the economy and our security. The real question for the electorate is: who will do it better?
“I am an elder statesman, a SAN, the highest taxpayer in old Ondo State, the highest taxpayer in present Ekiti, owner of the best private university in Nigeria and many more.
“If I contest for political office today, I will fail, not because I am not qualified, but because the
I pray the oil price stays at $20 per barrel for the next five years.That should force some serious reforms in our economy, governance and politics. With no fund for FAAC allocation Nigeria will have to be restructured back to a real federation.We need to start thinking straight!
Can Nigeria's immigration authorities tell the world why it has seized the passport of

@NigeriaGov
should not be seen to be penalizing citizens for engaging in or supporting peaceful protest, a constitutional right.
It’s unfortunate when political gladiators who are themselves using ethnic factors in their own political calculus try to delegitimize valid and legitimate competitors for the presidency by running some phantom “ethnic candidate” narrative.
I am happy and have found peace in withdrawing from partisan politics. No apologies. As a citizen I will always have my preferences and will vote for specific candidates, but there are times and circumstances when one can better contribute to nationbuilding from a nonpartisan
I have resigned today from
@ADCNig
for the reasons I stated in my letter to its National Chairman
@OkeyRalphs
. To all my supporters who joined the party because of me and became down-ballot candidates, congratulations! Please know that you can always count on me.
I fully agree with those who say oil has been a curse to Nigeria. Many of those question the ultimate value of the reported Kolmani oil find in Northern Nigeria. But I am also practical enough to know three things. First, some countries like Saudi Arabia, Gulf States, Norway were
Builders: Umaru Altine, a Fulani cattle rearer originally from Sokoto, was elected the first Mayor of Enugu in 1952 and served until 1958. He was a member of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) party.
Nigerians worship politics but do not demand good governance by the candidates they support. While a political campaign for real change has unfolded on social media, it will need to reach and convince the mostly rural and uneducated masses in the rural areas to deliver change.
Disappointed that
@inecnigeria
, despite all assurances they gave us, has disappointed again. “Tactical disenfranchisement”. Police colluding with thugs. Delayed uploading of results to BVAS. Whether it’s just operational incapacity, human factor, or more, the result is the same.
The mayor of Colorado city in Texas, Tom Boyd, resigned after the state's recent winter storm left 4.5 million people without light and water and he insensitively retorted that "only the strong will survive". Too bad he's not Nigerian. He may have become an Ambassador!
When important institutions are not independent, society suffers because decisions are made not for everyone’s ultimate benefit, but for the immediate advantage of a few vested interests. If, say,
@inecnigeria
is truly independent in 2023, it will deepen our democracy.
Maria, a photographer at Studio 24 in Abuja, is living with a disability (she can’t speak audibly). A cheerful and pleasant young lady, she just took my passport photos . Great job! Glad to support her hustle.
I have refrained so far from commenting on the
#Pantami
controversy. From information available: anyone can a mistake, and has the right to recant from it. But when the evidence shows that a serving minister of Nigeria has expressed open support for global terrorist groups,
Are you tired of a country that does not work for you, and has no plans for your children? If you are, action time is now! Let's organize, not just agonize.
Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka is a principled fighter for justice in our country and around the world. He is a phenomenon that unlettered and uncultured people may not fully understand in an age of lazy social media in which many don’t read or think deep.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has just announced his complete support and endorsement for me to become President of Nigeria in 2023, at the inauguration of Igbonine sociocultural organization happening live now in Enugu. Thank you my Distinguished brother Enyi!
I am disappointed by Prez
@MBuhari
‘s recorded speech to the country today. He failed to acknowledge the
#Lekkitollgate
killings. I didn’t see a concrete response to the CULTURE of impunity and police brutality, or to governance reforms other than a regurgitation of “programs”.
Given the unconstitutional
#TwitterBan
(which I happily “violated” from beginning to end) and the suppression of Nigerians’ right to peaceful protest, real democracy is yet to arrive in Nigeria. But the struggle must continue.
This morning on my way to the airport in Abuja, my vehicle developed a problem ( we suspect adulterated petrol). My assistant called an Uber. As I got out of my vehicle to get into the Uber the Uber driver, an admirer, it turned out, recognized me. Wahala!
I congratulate ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on the success of the mediation team he led on behalf of the African Union in bringing the warring parties in Ethiopia to sign a peace agreement.OBJ is a global statesman who has played many valuable roles in making and building peace
The presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress for the 2023 general election concluded in the early hours of today, 09 June 2022, and had a disappointing outcome. As a person of faith,I believe that God knows his plans for me, and will lead me to a perfect end that
Despite our current weakness, the sub-human poverty of the mind that governs our country and its politics, we will one day gain strength, under a leadership with vision and a worldview. For the sake of our youth and our future, we cannot give up.
Can anyone tell me the one single individual who is leading the protests against police brutality and racial injustice in America? The answer: CITIZENS. In the plural. Nigerian citizens should rise up for their rights and self interest instead of waiting and looking for messiahs.
Today is the 28th marriage anniversary of
@MaryanneMoghalu
and yours truly. My "running mate" in the journey of life, thank you for your love and support. I love you and Jesus loves you. Here's to another 28 years.
The people showed enthusiasm but the system let them down in too many polling units - delayed arrivals of INEC officials, violence in certain states, delayed uploading of results. I see SANS on parade ahead.
If
@inecnigeria
cannot ensure that every potential voter who has registered actually receives his or her
#PVC
, it cannot claim that it is prepared for a free & fair election. PVC registration AND collection is the acid test.
I’m not exactly certain what qualifies our recently retired Chief Justice of Nigeria Tanko Muhammad for the very high national Honour of GCON. The man retired under a cloud. His tenure was spectacularly undistinguished. Nigeria’s judiciary is corrupt and needs to be cleaned up.
Someone I don’t know just sent me a message with photos of a private jet for sale at $2.8 million.I smiled. “This man think say I fit buy plane”, I said to myself. “Him no know say big name is not necessarily big money for pocket”. I fly commercial, happily, with all its wahala
Nigeria’s youth need to stage the biggest and most important protest yet: the one at the ballot box in 2023. It’s the only protest that will change things. Advocacy matters. So does street protest. They express our voice. But only a massive electoral vote will shift the paradigm
Happy birthday to my beloved daughter and youngest child. “Obele nnwam” (“my little child”), God bless you as you grow older and keep you in all your ways. So proud of you.
My campaign contracted with NTA to show my special address to the nation this night at 8.30 pm. But they have sabotaged our campaign and declined to broadcast our material because I am an opposition candidate. Send the
@MBuhari
dictatorship a message at the polls. Vote YPP!
No surprise Nigeria is entering yet another recession. Until Nigeria is led by an intellectually competent leader, with visionary politics backed by sound economic thinking and knowledge, economic transformation will remain a dream. It's for citizens to do the needful.
by the Bank in building infrastructure for Anambra State University in Igbariam (Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University). I also recall H.E. PO’s ’s invitation to me to deliver the 6th Edition of the Anambra State Distinguished Public Service Lecture in 2011 on the subject of
All presidential candidates deserve respect. Trying to delegitimize any of them is futile. Whether anyone thinks any particular candidate will win or not is simply personal opinion &immaterial. They have a right to contest. Only one will win. Let the votes count, & voters decide.
Nigerian Igbo complain about political “marginalization”. While true because of the civil war, and while Nigeria needs “a new grand bargain” b/w it’s ethnic nationalities, the Igbo themselves have harmed themselves. They must first shed victim mentality.
Nigeria isn't poor. It's impoverished. We don't need to borrow. We do because we are lazy to think, generate revenue locally, & too corrupt to let go of government "funding" inflated infrastructure contracts that can be done by private capital under PPP (Pub-Private-Partnership)
I understand politics is a game of interests. But if we look at the countries that are developed, we see that they did so by balancing interests with equity and justice. The economic interest of slavery had to give way to civil rights and justice, else America would be a lie.
I believe in Nigeria. But we are many nations in one country. We can only become one nation if all the smaller nations have space to thrive in the larger one. Plus a shared national ambition. Secret gold mining in Zamfara while we share Niger Delta oil is bad!
#Restructuring
What Nigerian politicians don’t understand is that giving the people good governance is a win-win . The poor can become middle class or rich, and the already-rich can still be rich. But our politicians behave as if they must keep the poor masses down in order to prove a point.
I believe it is important, no matter who anyone supports or will end up voting for in 2023, to be tolerant and respectful of ALL candidates. Please debate ideas, visions (if and where they exist), experience and track record, and avoid personalized insults.
Nigerians want a “strong” Naira that exchanges at, like, N200 to $1. But the real issue is: what is the real value of the Naira based on our economic fundamentals? Currency value is determined mainly by (a) level of productivity and export of value added goods; (b) level of
Nigeria’s banking reforms , his conferment on me of the Anambra State Government’s Special Award for Excellence, and our collaboration as colleagues in Nigeria’s Economic Management Team (EMT) under then President

@AnambraStateGov
and I, also an Anambra indigene, was Deputy Governor of
@cenbank
. I recall his keen interest in education and our close coordination when, as CBN DepGov, I influenced a corporate social responsibility investment of N1 billion
It seems to me that the most important question for the 2023 elections and whoever wins the presidency is the existential matter of security and the shrinking territorial integrity of Nigeria under the threat of terrorism. We should interrogate all the candidates on this.
OBJ, faults and all, is our best President since 1999. One key reason for his success is that he was focused on Nigeria as his constituency not his ethnic group. All his career was federal/international - nation building, national security, economy, foreign affairs.
30 years ago they told you the future belonged to you. Today, that future is here. They have wrecked it. By the time they finish, you sef don reach retirement age.Then their children will take over, and you will still siddon look and be complaining.

I remember today the millions that died in Biafra during the 1967-1970 civil war, including my own uncle Godson Moghalu. While the circumstances that created that conflict are clear, wars are terrible and always set societies that are the theatre of war back many years.
#Ozoemena
What is so special about Abeokuta in Ogun State? The town has produced almost exclusively Nigeria’s political leaders from the Southwest region: Olusegun Obasanjo, MKO Abiola, Ernest Shonekan, not to mention the Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti &his famous parents
Nigeria has become a killing field. Insecurity everywhere, terrorists on the ascendant. If we make it to 2023, I hope we will catch some sense and look for leaders for whom "leader" is not just a nickname as it is today.
My dearest wife Maryanne
@MaryanneMoghalu
and I got married 25 years ago today. Since then, New York,Croatia, Tanzania, Switzerland, Abuja, Boston/Washington DC. I thank God for life, Silver Jubilee, the gift of our four lovely children and much else!Cheers to the next 25 years!
At “Four Corner” in Enugu State, I bought a bottle of my favorite groundnuts that I used to buy for N600 for N1000. Economists call it inflation. The market woman said when I gasped: “oga the price has gone up”. I call it Buhari’s Nigeria.
In my tweet yesterday on Prof. Wole Soyinka’s comment on Datti Baba Ahmed’s own comments about the 2023 presidential election,I said WS is a principled fighter for justice and a phenomenon “that unlettered and uncultured people may not fully understand in an age of lazy social
