An interesting choice that I do think showcases a lack of bias from the academy toward any specific studio, but this also seems like it's either a downgrade or an understanding of changing times and I don't know which it is.

An anecdote I cherish is Mandy Patinkin once asked Rob Reiner what The Princess Bride was about. Reiner said it’s about a grandfather telling his grandson that the most important thing in in the world is love. I think that’s beautiful.

This past summer I bonded with my girlfriend's daughter by taking her to a screening of The Princess Bride with thousands on the lawn of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. She was blown away by it and I was thrilled with the experience we shared. Unnecessarily gone. RIP Rob Reiner.

Regardless of how you feel about Avatar & James Cameron, the contribution to the industry and technology is only seconded by George Lucas. They pushed us forward and into the digital age. Is that good? Maybe, but the cultural impact isn't merch sales, it's bigger.
Despite having the biggest box office numbers of all time, the Avatar franchise has had almost no cultural impact compared to Marvel, Star Wars, etc. It’s very strange. Why is that? Give me your best explanations.

YES big Easter Egg!! The birds were remodeled especially for the movie. An homage to the director, Ralph Eggleston, who was loved by many of us on the team, and passed during our production in 2022. He did some early development paintings for HOPPERS, even when he was sick. 👑💛
