Love this.💞 It cannot be overstated how important Trevor Nelson is to Black British culture. His presence in the media landscape for the past 30 years is significant and he deserves to be praised. His stewardship of hip hop, soul and RnB on UK radio is appreciated.

Rocky's artistry is a REALLY unique bridge between 10's cloud rap, classic Memphis / Southern rap, 'modern 2010's trap rap', rage, psychedelic rock and a true pan-regionalist (unheard of/wasn't as accepted for a NYC rapper to have so MUCH Southern influence pre Rocky)

On TESTING, I feel the voices (whether adlibs, samples, filtered main vox) were crowded and were v present in the mix (which I love!) DBD has more space between where all the vocal layers sit which can feel less clustered (both approaches are really enjoyable)

✅️ I feel the neo-psychedelia and Memphis nods are still there but more subdued and traded for a more visceral (which will be amazing live) energy ✅️ the compositions are ambitious and progressive in their runtime (there's structural deviation beyond ch/verse structures)

🏆🏆🏆 The soundscapes are SO varied, the trap drums are the throughline that connect the first 5 songs and alot of the record ✅️Rocky's presence is strong and performances are varied in inflections ✅️There's weird pivots and time signature and genre switches
