62 Phonic Screenings completed this week. I don't want to hear another child read for at least 6 months.

I've seen a few posts saying that the PSC should be all 'real' words as this will check pupils reading abilities. I argue the contrary, it should be all pseudo words. Real words hinder EAL & others with weak vocabulary stores . Pseudo words give everyone equal footing.

Why do teachers in FB groups feel the need to comment on posts when they're not sure of the answer. Some people causing blind panic in KS1 groups about phonics screenings. I wish I had the time/patience to scour social media debunking drivel.

I'm trying to work but the girls are watching Mamma Mia 2. It's very distracting.

Today's observation: my yr 1 boys who hate art/handwriting and struggle to sit still. Are bloody awesome at stitching!

At the centre of it all is the kids we serve. I've had a tough week, but today I;.-Played chase with my year 1s. -Taught two new boys how to play noughts and crosses. -Read some brilliant stories. -Received a hug from a year 2 that made me smile .-Shared a joke with a year 5.

Teaching is a rollercoaster. There are days when you feel amazing, everything you touch turns to gold. There are frustrating days where nothing seems to work or stick. There are days when it's really bloody hard and you question everything. A.

This is a cracking job. If I didn't love my job so much, I'd be applying.
