When I got into MiSTer in 2018, the list of cores I was interested in was very small. The most notable cores were NES, Amiga, and Genesis. Game Boy came out around that time as well. Thanks to developers like

A customer just sent me this pic in an email. It made me so happy I felt the need to share it. DoDonPachi on a Citizen tv/VCR combo over composite. What a world we live in. We are spoiled for choice thanks to open source projects like

I’ve spent more hours than I’d like to admit testing controller latency on MiSTer. I’ve compiled my results, along with the results of others, into a spreadsheet, The latency is the time from arduino activating controller button to core detecting input.
I'm humbled to announce "REFLEX", a new product brand focused on low-latency solutions for both
#MiSTerFPGA
and original hardware.
The bulk of the specific product discussion is on my Discord server (link in bio) :)
Likes and RTs appreciated!
Now might be an interesting time to announce that I’m on the third prototype round of USB PD to console power cables.
Why USB PD? Well, it’s an versatile, and modern way of delivering power. The standard allows for 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V, and 20V output. The only consoles that exceed
I see a lot of discussion surrounding ways to play TurboGrafx-16. Did you know

's PC Engine core:
✅Cycle accurate CPU and VDC
✅Supports CD and SuperGrafx games
✅Allows for use of USB or original controllers (SNAC)
✅Integrated arcade card
✅Correct RGB color
REFLEX CTRL SNES drop in replacement boards are in production! Sweet 0.83ms latency with the comforts of original Nintendo buttons and shell. I’ve been unhappy with replacement membrane options so I might make my own. The SNES controller deserves the best treatment!

You might not like it but this is what peak [PS1 controller] performance looks like. Digital, Dual Shock, neGcon, and flight stick modes. Built-in rumble. Surprisingly great feeling analog sticks.
People ask why I made
#MiSTercade
. The answer is simple: I did it for myself. The arcade community is small in numbers but large in enthusiasm and they deserve a 0 compromise solution. Would it have been smarter to work on a consolized solution? Who said I wasn’t? :)
The
#MiSTerFPGA
Saturn core now plays 95.5% of the USA library! I tested more than 100 games on single SDRAM and nearly all are playable with only minor issues. There's almost no difference between single and dual SDRAM.

Grabbed one and will be testing latency as soon as it arrives. This could be the clicky stick controller that everyone has been waiting for. Let’s hope they put care into responsiveness :)

Calling it now: early LCD tech will be the next wave of gaming display nostalgia! Now that we have realistic CRT filters, it's time for the next frontier. So hang on to those 1024x768 TN monitors. The more motion ghosting and worse off-axis contrast the better!
There's so much noise negativity in the retro gaming scene. Let's spread some positivity!
We live in a world where you can play your childhood games on mobile, PC, MiSTer, RPi, or on original hardware using OLEDs and CRTs.

In the spirit of not leaving well enough alone, here’s some footage of my new

“IO Direct” board which allows for dual SDRAM while maintaining 24-bit RGB. It integrates “direct video” along with a Sony NTSC encoder for RGB, YPbPr, S-Video, and Craposite (TM) out :)
DE10-nanos have arrived and

aluminum kits are being assembled. Thank you for the patient wait and please continue to be patient as we build and ship your kit. Still a few stealth kits left (no MiSTer logo). Hoping the next batch of DE10-nanos won’t take 6 months :)
Repaired and recapped my first Game Gear and came away with 2 observations:
1) the fishy smell of the capacitors is real. My family came near my workspace and all asked “what’s that smell???”
2) the screen is so bad that I wish I’d left it broken.
A fresh Saturn build with many many changes since October 2023. The core progressed from "WIP" to very respectable. The vast majority of tested games are playable (635/646), with lots of Japanese and PAL releases untested (802). Run your

updater and get to playing!
This is a story of 3 friends who traveled to Japan in search of one of the most epic arcade machines of all time.
Imagine eating breakfast while playing a round of Darius Burst!
I'm finally done tinkering with this thing.
Features:
Direct Video RGB
RGB to YPbPr hardware conversion for 100% display compatibility (works on all my problematic scalers and CRTs)
S-Video
Composite with the typical dot crawl (again, keep expectations low)
ADC-In
Mini TOSLINK

Porkshop, your PVM-2030 is fine. You don’t need this PVM-2530, with the correct speakers. It isn’t really your dream display. Be happy with what you have.

manufacturer samples are here! Better late than never and they are looking great. Unannounced features will eventually be announced. This has been my most ambitious project to date - thanks for being patient!
Each time I fire up a 25"+ consumer CRT, I wonder why I own multiple PVMs. Consumer sets are so much fun. They have character. I love the soft image they produce.
How are you feeling about CRTs in 2024?

feature reveal. Introducing MiSTercade VS.: 2+ cabinets, 1 MiSTercade (and 1 or more VS boards). Connect cabinets with 1 HDMI cable and 1 mini usb cable. Showing off Duck Hunt to start. Ducks can’t hide behind the latency. (1/many)

Popular to hate on N64 in 2021. Such a bad system that gave us the first 3D Mario, Zelda, and Mario Kart, popular console first person shooters, which are a vital part of the speedrunning community. But yeah, not many 2D games. None of my friends ragged on the graphics in 96. 🤷
dogshit console with a built in blur(snow) filter you can't turn off, world's noisiest 3.3v line, every game is a weird ass resolution, memory card only big enough to hold a notepad file with mom's spaghetti recipe on it, shit controllers, no RGB
The

Neo-Geo core, developed by

Relax/fix timings
Add support for Metal Slug 5 Plus, V-Liner, Jockey GP, KOF98 AE/UM

Lots of chatter about simplifying gaming setups using emulation. I used to dream of a full wall setup with all the consoles but that dream has faded thanks to MiSTer. Pair MiSTer with a Wii/Wii U, Dreamcast, and PS2 for the ultimate CRT gaming experience!
This is not the main reveal this week. I’ve been holding off on selling MT32-Pi for
#MiSTerFPGA
. Not only did I move during the initial release but I wanted to add something special. Introducing MT32-Pi + SNAC + rotary encoder. Mounting bracket coming soon. Full case eventually?

Anyways, Robert is an absolute savage. Support these developers :)
The

#N64
core is making rapid progress and SNAC developer, blue1 has already added experimental 4P SNAC support. My prototype PCB will be here in 1-2 so for now, we hack together a test setup :)
What better way to celebrate squashing the MiSTercade bug that haunted me for more than a month than by playing Soldier Blade? Never assume that your initial assumptions are correct. Also, just keep reviewing schematics trace by trace until you figure out that 20pF != 12pF.
Playing some Batsugan on the Saturn pre-alpha core using
#MiSTercade
! Correct orientation and all :) Excited for a possible native port being added to the Toaplan core in the future. Long live
#MiSTerFPGA
Alpha version of the
#MiSTerFPGA
Saturn core is being tested but most games aren’t playable, though Dual SDRAM loads more games. Captured a video from my new dual SDRAM IO board. Too early for anything more than curiously browse through games. No word on dual SDRAM requirement :)
Who is ready for a Sega tower of power splitter cable? Genesis 2 style input. All outputs you could need. Works with the upcoming Reflex Volt USB PD solution too :)
Lots of (justified) excitement surrounding N64 possibly coming to
#MiSTerFPGA
, but also lots of complaining about games “not holding up”. What does that mean? What makes a game fun when it comes out but not fun later? Is it 2D vs 3D? Or maybe nostalgia? I’m team N64 for life!
