Lately, I have a little abandoned this engine for Dreamcast, I have not been able to dedicate time to it. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth to continue with this project, it requires a lot of dedication and I don't know if I can make it good enough to be used 😅#Dreamcast

. the man who achieved modifier volume-based self-shadowing in World Series Baseball 2k2 and was able to push polygons to the PowerVR GPU so quickly that its "Tile Accelerator" became his main bottleneck (pretty much unheard of), just pulled his Sega Dreamcast devkit back out!

We just had a MASSIVE audio performance breakthrough with jnmartin's port of Mario Kart 64 to the Sega Dreamcast! The ADPCM audio decoder which runs in software on our main 200Mhz SH4 CPU has now been optimized AF and has yielded substantial gainz!. The code on the right side is

Been up almost the entire night making big audio gainz on the SH4 CPU for the Sega Dreamcast port of Mario Kart 64! It took about 3 of us pitching ideas and optimizing together, but holy shit, the 200Mhz SH4 is keeping up 99% of the time doing all synthesis and mixing in SW!

Yep! It's true, Mario Kart 64 now has audio on the Sega Dreamcast! . which is why I haven't made any technical posts about it yet. jnmartin and I are DEEP in the coedz trying to optimize the audio, which has officially pushed the port over the edge in terms of performance.

Jesus Christ, jnmartin has officially implemented his first big improvement over the N64 original for the Sega Dreamcast port of Mario Kart 64! Now the jumpotron monitor screens in Wario Stadium and and Luigi Raceway are updating at a full 30FPS, or 6x the framerate of the N64!
