Government is not meant to be ‘efficient’ or ‘cheap’, it’s supposed to serve and protect the interests of the people, their rights, their safety, and their collective prosperity. Be careful what you optimise for - you might regret the things you discarded along the way.

‘Computer says no’ is not a rational or safe basis for service and administration of public interests. Automation is the process of replacing human labour and agency with logic gates; that’s fine for a production line but destructive and dangerous for human social governance.
I feel like with a small team and 2-3 years, proven tech founders could automate huge chunks of the government. I would sign up for a tour of duty (in the UK). It would need a lot of political aircover - I have no desire to fight a massive bureaucracy 🤷♂️.
