Arizona's business community is beginning to speak out in opposition to ESAs (like those advanced in Florida's #SB48) and the privatization of public education. "Public education is the single most powerful economic development tool we have as a state."

The current, aggressive push to expand Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESAs) does nothing to address the systemic education challenges we face in Arizona.

This week Florida’s Education Appropriation Cmte approved a similar measure #SB48 with an “indeterminate” impact on state funding. It is irresponsible and foolish. @SenMannyDiazJr @DougBroxson @kellistargel

I’m tempted to use the word “fools,” but I’ll just relay the facts. Rushing forward on ideological grounds, WV house passes a private school voucher bill, then realizes the cost is astronomical & pulls it back. SC basically did same thing in 2019-20. 1/x

Great idea. “This spring and summer should not be filled with extra lessons,” the letter says. “Children, teachers and parents need time and space to recover from the stress that the past year has placed on them."

"FEE’s Floridian roots do have one undeniable pedagogic function: they make the blatant hucksterism at the heart of the education reform movement much harder to deny. FL, after all, has played host to more grand swindles than any other state." The grand swindle lives on in #SB48

A fitting policy direction for a state that has played host to more grand swindles than any other state.

*What was once a fringe notion of privatizing public education is now a mainstream policy goal. A Wolf at the Schoolhouse Door shows how that change occurred.* Thanks @palan57 for this great review!

"And in a year when time is going to be a precious commodity, every single element of the school year has to be questioned--does this help my students move forward? BS Testing does not meet that measure." #WaiveTheFSA @EducationFL https://t.co/VLFv6d7saA
