's LEGRANGE POINT ramps things up in a rushed but fun Breen infiltration that sees Rayner finally take the Captain's chair. only one more to go!
@SpoilerTV
DOCTOR STRANGE 2 is a wild, cameo-filled spectacle. You need to watch Drive My Car, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Personal Shopper, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Bait and Monos to prepare for it. And then just not watch Doctor Strange 2.
Top Gun Maverick, The Batman, Ambulance, Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Jackass Forever, The Northman, Kimi and Everything Everywhere All At Once is a hell of a first five months of 2022 in movies.
Top Gun: Maverick has an insanely good final act - deservedly reaches god-tier sequel status. Cruise’s most human, most emotional & mortal film. Kosinski’s aerial combat sequences are as finely directed as they come. Such a likeable ensemble too. Blockbuster of the year.

love how people have been trying to fix/update the prequel/original fight scenes for years but they've only succeeded in making them so much worse
There are so many things wrong with that John Campea RRR tweet, but him getting mad at intro credits for movies when he’ll sit through every end credits of a Marvel movie multiple times is one of the most hypocritical.
KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON: a condemnation of evil, not sure how anyone could call this boring or slow: it’s a vital powerhouse of a movie where Lily Gladstone shines with subtle, quiet rage. Scorsese the best to ever do it: this might be top 5. Hot take? Almost too short.
Actually impossible to tweet something positive about The Last Jedi without multiple people telling you it's a threat to their very existence on a personal level
OPPENHEIMER is probably Chris Nolan’s magnum opus. Phenomenal work. Murphy, Blunt, Damon incredible. Nolan puts Oppenheimer under the spotlight and has him answer for America’s sins. Such a fantastic study of character, paranoia and how anger is spawned from that.
Think I'm ready to say that Season 3 of
#StrangerThings
is the best yet. It's just so brilliantly done, more of the same but executed more confidently and without the pacing issues of Season 2. Steve/Robin/Erica/Dustin is the best team-up and I need a spinoff.
Finished NORMAL PEOPLE.
That was absolutely perfect. Heartbreaking, emotionally investing and utterly addictive. A show for the ages that's up there with the best new TV in years.
#NormalPeople
GODZILLA MINUS ONE is one of the best films of the year, a harrowing human drama that finally nails non-monster parts of a modern Godzilla story; and absolutely crushes it with the big guy. Best score of the year and a rich anti-war theme that puts most American films to shame.
House of the Dragon was a solid reminder that Game of Thrones was great at its peak. The performances are top notch, and the thing looks like a million dollars. Loved Matt Smith in this.
Holy fuck Brendan Fraser! Best performance of the year - it’s a bandwagon but there’s a reason why it’s a bandwagon - The Whale skilfully avoids falling into traps it could have easily fallen into with care even if it’s not a subtle film. Also: Sadie Sink *excellent*.

Chris Pine is the best Chris. His performance as Captain Kirk and everything here about Hell or High Water is right. Superb in the first Wonder Woman and the single best thing about the 2nd. Finally plugging the wonderful I am the Night, a wonderful noir miniseries.
Chris Pine is trending which means it's a good time to remind everyone that HELL OR HIGH WATER is a fantastic modern western that I can't recommend enough.
@IGN
1. Couldn't get into Fallout 4 at all.
2. Assassin's Creed Unity is good, and one of the best in the franchise.
3. The Last of Us Part 2 is better than The Last of Us Part 1, and I liked Abby more than Joel by the end.
SAINT OMER is on Mubi from today and it's one of the best films of the year so far. Complex courtroom drama that's up there with the very, very best of them. No easy answers, no crowd-pleasing court moments, practically revolutionary filmmaking. Guslagie Malanda superb.
THE GREEN KNIGHT - the best film of 2021 so far, a beautiful odyssey of life, death and rebirth. There are few better directors than David Lowery out there right now. Absolutely criminal this won't get a wider release in UK cinemas - a unique take on the Arthurian legend.
THE ZONE OF INTEREST is a bleak portrayal of true evil: Sandra Huller needs to win best actress and best supporting actress at the Oscars this year - truly one of our best. Challenging, important and vitally so from Jonathan Glazer. Should be shown in history classes.
The sheer difference between UK and US movie goers summed up. NO TIME TO DIE unspoiled until it comes out on *ITV* - yet Americans will spoil movies before they’re even legally available to watch
Judging by UK Twitter, a sizeable chunk of the general population who tuned in to watch No Time To Die for the first time tonight on ITV were surprised by the big ending. Amazing that such a thing could go unknown by so many for so long.
Bring back the era of massive, dumb but fun big-budget sci-fi flops like Valerian, John Carter, Tomorrowland & Mortal Engines blockbusters are too safe now
THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS is amazing, a necessary fourth entry in the franchise that's one of the absolute best - and boldest - blockbusters since THE LAST JEDI. Fully aware of its own legacy and the discourse - it's a sequel that understands the Trinity/Neo relationship.
ROGUE NATION is the best of these; reverse energy - starts big and gets smaller as it goes along, much more personal, kinetic and funny as ever: the opera set-piece, the tunnel dive, the Morocco car chase - the "living manifestation of destiny!" reveal, nothing tops it. A++++.
THE NORTHMAN - astoundingly brilliant cinema on a historical epic scale not beaten since Gladiator. A brutally personal revenge-fuelled odyssey of destruction and chaos - Eggers has done it again.
For clarification: yes it’s the instigator for the main plot, without it, it wouldn’t happen - but other movies would have made blowing up the Kremlin their entire final act - GHOST PROTOCOL uses it as a starting point.
Daily reminder that Chloé Zhao has done 3 of the best films of the last few years and will almost certainly knock it out of the park with The Eternals. You've probably seen Nomadland, but give Songs my Brothers Taught Me + The Rider a watch if you haven't yet. They're wonderful.
Nope is 3 out of 3 for Jordan Peele. Such a unique studio horror movie (Cowboys vs. Aliens done right), nail-bitingly tense with just the right amount of humour and overwhelming sense of dread. Keke Palmer superb. Top 3 of the year so far.
Long Day's Journey Into Night admittedly; is more of an inspiration: the movie's opening credits don't start until 45 mins in, and the rest DS2 is all one long take. Same with Bait: the whole film is shot in a Cornish fishing village in black and white.
Five into Wheel of Time Series 2 and have to say, it’s fantastic television. Sprawling epic fantasy that puts its characters through the wire, a much needed step up on S1. Like Foundation it’s improved so much the second time out.
YouTube algorithm logic:
We can see that you've just watched a clip from a show/movie that you love. Here's a recommendation for a video explaining why it sucks.
Actors who have appeared in more than one thing this year and been great in both (or more):
Stephen Graham (The Virtues, Line of Duty, The Irishman)
Brad Pitt (OUATIH, Ad Astra)
Morfydd Clark (Saint Maud, David Copperfield, HDM)
Robert Pattinson (High Life, The Lighthouse)
THE KITCHEN embargo is up and oh my god what a film - maybe the most unique British dystopian film since CHILDREN OF MEN and you all should be watching TOP BOY - Kano superb, everywhere. A love letter to London; but a condemnation of its government too. Loved Ian Wright in this!
Mr. Robot is back and that premiere couldn't have been any more awesome. From that heavily Bourne Ultimatum inspired opening chase scene to the very end, I loved it. Instantly a contender for one of the best episodes of the year.
#MrRobot
AVATAR: THE WAY OF THE WATER proves the old adage: never bet against Cameron. He gets empathy, stakes & character better than most other blockbusters, the visual effects are spectacular & the finale is one for the ages. Stellar visual craftmanship with tons of heart.
Megapolis will come out in the US 3 months before it comes out in the UK, be available on streaming/Blu-ray before it even gets here and then will end up in 5 Curzon cinemas in London for a week at 10:40pm each day
Del Toro’s Pinocchio is his best work since Pan’s Labyrinth & that’s as someone who loves all his films. A rich, stunningly animated masterpiece that really shines, the heart, soul and care put into the Pinocchio story makes it absolutely worth seeing on the biggest screen.

wheel of time 2.06: dare I say it, the best fantasy show since game of thrones? certainly up there with his dark materials, that's for sure. really an excellent second series.
Love that we’re getting more epic fantasy that isn’t afraid to go all in on the genre. Can’t wait for His Dark Materials , The Witcher, Carnival Row and The Dark Crystal.

It’s mad. My favourite movies as a kid were the great escape, rocky and the magnificent seven because that’s what my parents watched. It shouldn’t be *that hard* to imagine butler growing up under similar circumstances, watching what his parents watched.
Lupita Nyong'o is going to get snubbed tomorrow and she's put in one of the best performances of the year in Us.
Aisling Franciosi gives a completely committed performance in The Nightingale that's one of the best of the year and as unforgettable as the movie itself.
MONKEY MAN: fuck it why not let Dev Patel star and direct the next James Bond? I’m so glad this thing got a cinema release - could never imagine watching on Netflix as per the original intent. Banger.
8. The Bill and Ted Trilogy has no bad film - it's one of my all-time favourite trilogies - and Bogus Journey and Face the Music are as good as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
@coopercooperco
Steve McQueen also did Small Axe last year and Uprising this year, Jane Campion did Top of the Lake a few years ago. Danny Boyle did Trust. Technically Scorsese even did Pretend it’s a City this year. They’ve been doing this for a while.
THE FIRST OMEN is the biggest surprise of the year - it’s so good. Lots of POSSESSION in this, genuinely scary and super inventive imagery and practical effects. Best franchise horror in ages. Nell Tiger Free is terrific.
Surprise film was FERRARI.
Visceral, raw racing as a horror story where you don’t know if you’ll survive the race, let alone win it. Masterfully directed with all the craft of a legend. Easy bait but loved it.
And Michael Mann stopped by.
James McAvoy & Bill Hader entering negotiations to join IT Chapter 2 as an adult Bill and Richie along with Jessica Chastain who's already in advanced talks? This is pretty much perfect casting so far. Hope it all goes through.
#ITChapter2
THE FABELMANS is the best of the best picture nominees by quite some distance isn’t it? Spielberg’s never gone off form, but this is something special even by his lofty standards. Transformative.
SPENCER: I am very interested to see the reactions of this when it goes wide. Beautifully shot, beautifully acted, maybe lays on its metaphors a bit too thick, but is a very well crafted film that's leagues better than The Crown. Not a conventional biopic - more of a ghost story.
important reminder to see all the films you thought about seeing that have been out for weeks before Black Panther 2 gets them removed from screens entirely
NOPE and Keke Palmer getting ignored this awards season is just as bad a snub if not worse than HEREDITARY and Toni Collette. NOPE should be a major favourite.
The Harder They Fall is excellent, a brilliantly slick reinvention of the western mythology from Jeymes Samuel - and the best modern western in an age. Such a great cast, incredibly fun to watch from start to finish and sure to be a new favourite. What a way to start
#LFF2021
A masterpiece, one of the best movies ever made. If you haven't seen it yet and are in the UK - it's a film worth staying up for. Alternatively, put it on record and start off your boxing day in the best way possible.
HIGH LIFE was really good. Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche & Mia Goth were incredible in this. Claire Denis subverts any expectations that you had going into the film with a bold, original and brilliant story.
There's a lot to unpack but one of this year's best for sure.
All Quiet on the Western Front should, if we’re real here - be the best picture front runner. Raw, visceral - chaotic, brutal and hopeless warfare. Maybe the definitive war film of the last 10 years? Should be. See it in the cinema if you can.
