July 4th is a couple days away and our country's 250th birthday is a short 12 months away. @TheFP has a series of articles that were published over the past year or so that help us understand what a very special place we live in. we are blessed. One of my favorites: 🧵

You can't access other material unless you are able to read. Proficiency in reading is key accessing the world around you. Oh to have a D or R leader that really pushed for this. #howarethechildren.
Seriously, if K-3rd grade students can’t read, why do we teach any other academic subject until they can? Utilize different teachers? Of course. Science of Reading? Absolutely. No excuses. How is what you’re doing working for your kids?.

Who hasn't heard "children are not a score." Well, the recent article "The Predictive Power of Standardized Test" at @EducationNext provides longitudinal study that depicts how critical it is for children to be proficient in reading, math & science by 8th grade.🧵

When you feel rhythm, when you listen to music and syncopation, when you see patterns in nature, geometric structures - in all of these is mathematics - it is beautiful and our children should appreciate they might just be a "math person" #howarethechildren.
Nearly one in three students in middle and high school say they’ve never felt like a “math person,” according to newly released polling from the RAND Corporation. Another 25% said they used to feel at home in the subject, but don’t any longer

Career Pathways are a saving grace to many children that do not seek college. We need to give students these options. Great for them, great for our economy and great for the country's future. #edchat #careerpathways.
"In 2023–24, WorkTexas reports that 88 percent of its adult students completed training. Those employed for a year or more earn an average of $23 per hour."
