My latest, where I argue (1) Ideas don’t belong to groups of people; (2) Universalism is an aspirational principle that holds value regardless of how well individuals adhere to it; (3) Racializing and denigrating such useful principles does harm https://t.co/B94UFU2YnR

The “@Harvard deserves it” crowd is missing the point: This isn’t just about Harvard. If the government can demand ideological litmus tests from them, what will schools—or nonprofits—with less power do when they're the ones on the chopping block?

This piece is more about political argumentation than DEI (not my title). I argue political parties and gov officials should resist using threats and strong-arm tactics over engagement and persuasion. We should expect them to make an argument & defend it.

The Orange RTC demanded Amity Regional School District eliminate DEI initiatives or be reported. A parent wants a broader debate.

Yale finally joins the growing list of universities adopting institutional neutrality/restraint. Good move!
UNIVERSITY | A report from Yale’s Committee on Institutional Voice, adopted in full by University President Maurie McInnis, advises that Yale leaders largely refrain from commenting on topics of public importance. https://t.co/zlLJC1GHqZ

“Universalism is Not White”. My main point is that racializing universalism and similar principles is mistaken and likely counterproductive for psychology and other social sciences. It’s a quick read!

Institutional "neutrality" may not be the ideal name for it, but I'm for the idea of universities only taking positions on social/political issues when it concerns the core mission of the university (to produce, preserve, and transmit knowledge). https://t.co/sPvSrxIxFT

The panel featured four pro-neutrality Yale faculty members and Wesleyan University President Michael Roth, who opposes neutrality.

This is important to remember if one cares about referring to groups in a way most of them prefer (how one refers to individuals is a different matter).
New report by Pew Research Center finds that among Latinos who are familiar with the term "Latinx", 75% say it should NOT be used -- up from 65% of Latinos who said the same in 2019. Read more here: https://t.co/EBFr1NWoR0

This promises to be a great workshop on sociopolitical bias in therapy. If you're interested in how to approach viewpoint diversity in therapy, this should be of interest!

I've been asked about grad psych programs that value open inquiry and strive for sociopolitical neutrality (or at least don't aggressively push such positions). Help me out by providing suggestions with the name of the program, area(s), and any info supporting your suggestion.
