Today is the start of National Care Leavers' Week. As one of few MPs who grew up in care, I know that there are many wonderful professionals who support our care leavers to dream big and achieve their aspirations. But there is more to do.

It's good that there's an MP (Darren Paffey, Labour, Southampton Ichen) who knows what it's like to be in care as a child. Also good that he's on the Education Select Committee, which means he may be able to have an influence in this area:

💬 Thanks to @JakeBenRichards for raising the impact of distance moves on children in care in his #PMQ. 📍 Children in care should be kept close to the people and places that matter to them. ➡️ Watch again & support our #GoneTooFar campaign: https://t.co/K636WqQs6X

A really good podcast on the lived experiences of children who have been in care by @BASW_UK . Important that all HCPs have awareness of the experiences of looked after children to inform their practice.

Getting rid of local connection test is a step in the right direction. But we need to go further to tackle the shocking fact that 1 in 3 young people leaving care become homeless within 2 years

BREAKING "Domestic abuse victims and care leavers under 25 to be exempt from any ‘local connection’ requirements." This will mean care leavers placed out of area and who have built lives for themselves, making new friends will no longer face downward social mobility. Care

Great to hear @Keir_Starmer mention care leavers in his speech and set out his commitment to tackle homelessness - 1 in 3 face homelessness within 2 years of leaving care so this is a really welcome step.
