Just received an S.684 from HMRC after 10 years for years 2010/11. I had managed to get myself off the anti depressants but this letter has put be over the edge again. No right of appeal either. #LoanChargeScandal #depression #bankruptcy

Morse (in 2019) said in Government-approved statement: “I’m pleased to see Government commit to act on the recommendations of my review, bringing the #LoanCharge back into line with the wider tax system."
Govt statement about Morse review(Dec 2019): "The #LoanCharge should not apply to loans made before 9th December 2010, reflecting the earliest point at which the legal position on loan schemes was made clear and bringing the look back period into line with other UK tax policy."

I was withdrawn from the settlement offer then given 17 years ttp to pay off the loan charge - no settlement - this year I will pay £6000 off the alleged debt - HMRC have already charged me £8000 late payment interest - basically, I’m a cash cow for HMRC #LoanChargeScandal

This is some of the bleakest testimony I've ever received. From former member of Armed Forces. He's twice come close to killing himself. He's facing a bill running into hundreds of thousands of pounds. After trusting accountant who told him scheme was HMRC compliant. #loancharge
I'm off diary for a couple of days. But I continue to be contacted by people who are in deep despair due to #loancharge, including somebody who has contemplated taking their own life. The 'human stories' linked to this policy are utterly heartbreaking.
