Socialism and socialist policies, not "capitalist Abundance" which blurs the public-private sector distinction and relies on finance, the banks and rich investors.

Strange that Jacobin would describe market choice as a good thing.

I am so upset. Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdaniโs inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/
Tfw youโre invited to write a piece about racism only for the edits to be racist. New level unlocked.

It's the old story with the cash nexus dissolving all bonds of solidarity and with weak unions, a weak left etc. etc, demagogues have an easy time scapegoating the weak and powerless. Mamdani shows you don't have to do that.
Everybody is nostalgic for the New Deal but theyโre quiet about what kind of US immigration policy actually produced it. This, along with more permissive attitudes towards drugs and crime, are what I believe creates the gulf between those workers with and without degrees

I just don't buy that they're dragged down that much by large scale immigration. When it's combined with everything else, like outsourcing, weak unions and a minimal welfare state, sure. The relentless propaganda is why lesser educated Americans fall for demagogues.
Thereโs a reason you get screamed at for talking about immigration on the US left. If you have a college degree your wages are (mostly) not dragged down by large scale immigration. If you donโt have a degree they are. Bernie 2016 was the last left coalition to acknowledge this

it's decided by investors and private capital which is why .@BigMeanInternet was asking about the profit horizons and such.
The AI data center build-out is U.S. central planning by 5 big tech firms and Wall Street. Are data centers and AI what we should focus on in America? That is the core question we have to discuss.

Whatever happens tomorrow, never forget that this doggedly positive and hopeful campaignโin every way a fight for basic dignity and joyful celebration of democratic pluralismโwas relentlessly denounced by political and media elites as something sinister, dangerous, and violent.

BREAKING: @realDonaldTrump officially endorses Andrew Cuomo for mayor.
New Trump Truth Social post: โWhether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!โ

Spoilers for Talamasca: 3 episodes into the new AMC show which takes place in the Anne Rice extended universe and our hero is upset at the secret society which has recruited him, so he introduces himself to the big bad vampire (William Fichter) and spills the beans.

Democrats love using the rubric of what is politically possible to cover for the fact that even if they could pass it they are totally ideologically opposed to anything approaching good legislation or policy.
Abigail Spanberger takes a swipe at Mamdani, saying "maybe he should be a Democrat" and that his campaign promises are dishonest.
