Just spoke to my brother.
He said that during his shift at a theatre bar yesterday, a woman paid with her Apple Watch.
She extended her arm across the bar to connect with the card machine.
Brother didn’t realise and thought she was going in for a fist pump.
I can’t cope 😂
When people ask if representation really matters…
After speaking on
@loosewomen
on Friday, I was sent this by a lady who follows me on Instagram.
This is a video of the moment her little girl who has an arm like me, saw me on TV.
Honestly, it’s everything to me.
Last week I cried on a train.
Just felt tired &overwhelmed.
@VirginTrains
manager Majid came over & gently asked if I was ok. Offered me tea, said he would sit with me if I wanted or if not, he would be nearby.
Later, he checked I could get home ok. Can we all be a bit more Majid
As disabled actors we’re -
Not asking for favours.
Not asking for special treatment.
Not saying we’re “offended”.
We are simply asking for a place at the table, and when we’re allowed to play ALL the roles, we’ll pipe down about non disabled actors playing disabled parts.
I’m quite a confident person.
But the couple on the table next to us last night, who whispered, pointed at me, laughed so loud that others looked around, then mimicked my arm, made me feel so small.
This isn’t a sympathy status.
Just reminding people how much it hurts.
THIS IS EMMA.
Without her assistance, I wouldn’t have been able to do Celebrity Masterchef.
I get severe pain/weakness in my hand so my mate Emma came along for the ride & supported my independence.
This is access. This is inclusion.
This is change.
This is Emma.

#LimbDifferenceAwareness
I used to hate my body because of my arm. It took years to get to a place where I could celebrate it. I hope our next generation of young people with limb differences never feel the pressure to hide away but celebrate everything that makes them different.
Why missing fingers??
Here we go again...
Using disability as a costume and to highlight a character as a “baddie”.
Children with limb differences rarely get to see themselves represented truthfully. But instead get shown as scary monsters?
Not what we need 😑
#TheWitches
Saw a girl on TV with an arm like me and was buzzing.
Then realised it was me.
Be your own hero 😂
Celebrity Masterchef… Coming soon🙄😂
#MasterChef
@MasterChefUK
Found my arm from 10 yrs ago.
I hated wearing them but had it made just for drama school.
I remember saying to mum “I need one made. I might only get roles if I have 2 arms”
Advice to younger self -
You never needed two arms kid. You’ll do just fine with one💜
#MondayMotivation
Today 2 children saw my arm. They were terrified &hid their faces into their mum. One on the verge of tears. They didn't understand because they don't see disability in Books, TV, Films & Adverts. Let's KEEP changing that. It's not nice to be seen as scary. What can you do?👇🏼
So bloody humbled & shocked to be long listed/suggested for a BAFTA for supporting actress as Hannah in LIFE. Lots of amazing actors on that list so chances of going any further aren’t high but with a lifetime of fighting behind me, I’ll take this little (huge for me!) victory 💜
What a decade✨
2010 - My daily mantra was “Face the other way, hide arm, keep it a secret. Then I’ll be just like “everyone else”.
2019 - Facing head on, no turning away and not trying to desperately hide something that means I’m not like “everyone else” 💜
#DecadeChallenge
Taught Ned to sit by the door every time he comes in from the garden so that we can wipe his paws✅
Yesterday we wiped the front two paws, realised they weren’t wet so walked away. Noticed he wasn’t following us. He refused to move until we’d wiped all 4 paws.
I can’t cope 😭
Just one thing. Please stop saying "Oh, I don't see you as disabled" like we should be grateful for the acceptance.
We ARE disabled & ignorance towards that is hurtful. Embrace it! It's not dirty word! The world has made you think it's dirty! It ain't & we're proud
#IDDP2018
When I was 7, Beth in my class (not real name) said I’d never be Angel Gabriel in the nativity cos “she’s got two wings. And you’ve got one arm”
April is

month. Lets keep celebrating!
Also, done one Beth cos I was happy playing shepherd number 3 anyway.
When someone says
"Ahh well I don't see you as disabled" along with a reassuring smile 😌
No! I don't mind you seeing my disability. It's part of who I am. The problem ISN'T with calling us disabled.
The problem is thinking that disabled is a dirty word!
#Disability
#Awareness
As a little girl, I was stared at, pointed, laughed & screamed at, Because some other children & parents couldn't accept my disability. Fast forward 25 years & this is where we're at! 😞
Please educate where you can. It's so important we change attitudes!
Fashion brands! If you don't have the voices of people with disabilities in your designing process, its reflected in the clothes you sell. We have the right to choose clothes we want to wear & see our bodies reflected in advertising. Let's start working together &make this change
3 yrs ago today, I got a letter to say I had “highest form (severe) Pre cancerous cells” on my cervix found at my smear test.
I had a procedure and they were removed. It could have been a very different story if I hadn’t attended my cervical screening.

Summer Solstice…
My birthday…
… And the day I said “yes” to the lad that has every ounce of my heart.
I love you forever.
Thank you for loving me 💜
Don’t tell me to accept & embrace a body I was taught to hate.
I wasn’t born hating the body I had.
I was told it was disgusting, that I should be sad.
So yes I’ll love her & show her I care.
But it was others opinions that once put that hate there.

The news is finally out!

Grief is a weird one isn't it?
Hits you randomly & bloomin hurts.
My thoughts are with anyone struggling with grief, especially in the lead up to Christmas.
When the expectation is to be happy but there's a spotlight on what's missing 💔
Remember it won't always feel like this✨
This just made me cry with excitement. We are fighting so hard for disability to be included and represented in the arts. Victories like this mean so much. James is a fantastic actor just doing his job.
Praise him for for acting and his skills ❤️✨
Delighted to announce the 1st UK tour of my debut play SNATCHED

The moment we won a BAFTA 🏆
We’re so proud of our organisation
@TripleC_UK
(creators of

It can get tough running an organisation and fighting for change alongside being actors, writers, directors, creatives. But having a whole room listen fuels our fire even more.
"What would next year's BAFTAs look like if every single person in this room tonight made a pledge, a pledge to put us on the agenda, to put us on every single agenda and for the first time in our industry's history, put disability centre stage." -
@TripleC_UK
I honestly can’t express how grateful I am for the support I’ve received over the last few days.
I’m not a celebrity.
I’m not a chef.
And I’m not sure I’m a master of much 😂
This time last year (in lockdown), I made my first omelette. It was terrible.

Hey train stations/companies👋🏼
You know when you cancel a train half way through its journey & then change the platform for the next train with 30 seconds to go…
Can you spare some consideration for disabled people/people with access requirements?
Please be part of the solution.
Kept this one in for a while 😂
So blooming excited to be part of this show and playing the delight that is Mistress (Nell) Quickly 💜

Conversation with a woman the other day.
"Oh you've got one arm!"
"Yes"
"But you didn't have one arm in Coronation St"
"Oh ha yes I did"
"No you didn't."
"Umm, I promise I did"
"No you didn't. I would have noticed that"

To all of our non disabled allies that often have more of a voice at the table than we do...
Please speak up when people try to put disabled actors in the same box as dragons and dead bodies.
We need all the support we can get 💜👇🏼

this Sunday 24th April!
Hi
@Sia
There’s a phrase we use in the disabled community -
“nothing about us without us”.
We’re undoing years of being told the industry isn’t for us.
We’re driving a movement that allows us in the room.
To be accepted. Celebrated.
Please give us chance to help you understand.
Moved into my first home in August. It’s a new build estate & haven’t had chance to make any neighbour friends with everything going on. BUT, I just stood on my door step for almost an hour chatting to Rose on my left & Gina on my right & it’s proper warmed my heart.
Thats all 💜
Living with your ex whilst dating new people is fun 😂
This was the message Mat left on the fridge for my date to see who was coming over to walk Ned with me
A bit of kindness & a lot of banter can go a long way! And also make you feel like your life is an American sitcom 😂
I’ve had so many people reach out about “The PIP scene” in Ep 3 of LIFE which is bitter sweet.
Support for disabled people is not an advantage. Not a nice little boost or tidy little financial gain.
It’s allowing them the opportunity to access the same world as everyone else..👇🏼
Just cried in a covid testing car park because I physically couldn’t manage.
Have to be tested for filming next week. Assumed an assistant would do the test for me.
Not allowed.
I couldn’t open the packaging. Couldn’t snap off the stick. Couldn’t undo the test tube. 1/2
Standard “went on morning TV for my 2 pence worth” photo.
I’ll summarise.
I basically said that the screen industry is f**king huge (but I didn’t swear) & there’s more TV/film now than we could watch in a lifetime so it’s not about taking jobs away from…
(1/2) (I hate threads)
My dad's a Romany gypsy & can't really read/write. Growing up, I would help him write cards for mum. Now that I don't live at home, he has a go on his own whilst phoning me for help.
By chance I'm back home tonight, so we're card writing together.Just like old times ❤️

I got an arm! Well, a gym arm!
1st Pilates class where I could attempt ALL the moves! I was awful. Like a baby deer learning to walk. A Human Bambi. Had no balance on my right side & it was incredibly painful! BUT, gonna keep trying & my downward dog will be on point in no time😂
Oh gosh.
Spotlight giving an ACTUAL platform for employers to NOT cast D/deaf, disabled actors.
Undoing all the work we do each day to INCREASE representation & employment of deaf & disabled artists.

Let us support you on solutions. Don’t take that away from us.
Happy 50th episode Grantchester 💫

Cried my way through an hour of physio then got on the tube to head to theatre. Mascara down face, 3 bags, can't hold on, no seats. Then a little voice "you can have my seat".
A 5 year old just gave me her seat. A 5 year old read my pain better than every adult in the carriage.
What happens when we step out of our personal space and take a closer look into other people’s lives?
Life, a brand new six-part series, coming this autumn to
@BBCOne
and
@BBCiPlayer
.
Had to have a full body search at Manchester Airport.
Machine couldn’t detect my body as I don’t have 4 full limbs 😂
It was thrown by my lack of arms so went off on one.
Discriminated against by a robot…
What a time to be alive 😂
P.s - Manchester airport staff are the best
Being a disabled actor isn’t a disadvantage. It never has been.

How much more advocacy work have we got to do!?
I’ll see myself out 😂
Just cried at the Tesco advert.

✨NOT JUST FOR REPRESENTATION✨
We stand for much more than just representation. We stand for celebrating the bodies we have. Don't represent us because you HAVE to. Do it because you WANT to. Because you too can see the beauty in difference.

If you find me in the corner of a pub in a bar in London and I’m unable to speak... it’s because I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that I just paid £13.50 for this 👇🏼

Again... £13.50.
Thirteen actual frickin pounds fifty.
I used to hate the stares from strangers. Loath them. Then I learned
that staring back at the actual problem was better than cowering away. Empowering even.
So now, I try to hold the gaze of pity, confusion, sympathy & ableism for as long as I can. Maybe then it’ll change

One year.
Last summer was crazy. Single in my 30’s after 8 years, selling my house, staying in hotels/spare rooms, busy schedules, a wild flurry of dates 👀

In early 80's, my dad (Romani Gypsy) snuck out to a gorger (Non Gypsy) disco in the next town. At the party, he met a girl. A gorger girl. Relationships like this were frowned upon.
