Brewdog Pink IPA came from a good place from women inside the business.
The problem is:
a) Argh. Pink. No.
b) If you have to explain it, it’s already backfired
c) Any initiative like this from BD is going to be greeted with epic scepticism given history of hyper-macho stunts.
@MelissaCole
100% this. Why didn’t someone in QC or marketing or SOMEWHERE realise at some point before the bottling stage that pink bottles with ‘beer for girls’ on would only ever backfire catastrophically?
@davidclewis
So, so many reasons, starting with the idea that everyone will stop and listen to them because they’re Brewdog - but there’s a reason they are frequently referred to as ‘Brodog’
@MelissaCole
I honestly believe that all their marketing efforts are designed with maximum outrage in mind - and that all the discussions and criticism over the past 24hours is exactly what they hoped for. Just look at the media coverage its caused - Maybe I'm being overly sceptic
@MelissaCole
their second post, with the
#sarcasm
was either pure cynicism or the response I'd associate with a 12 year old who's been caught out "I was jooooking". I find it hard to believe their marketing dept is that stupid, but who knows. Or cares.
@MelissaCole
I just love the fact that it's pink. Traditionally pink was warn by boys as it was Aston colour and wasn't appropriate for the fair sex. We'd have to wear blue.... Yet here we are
@MelissaCole
But apparently it’s ok because women were involved in the creative process, so no-one can argue with the logic. Nice idea, but so poorly executed.
@MelissaCole
d) It does nothing to destroy the men/women bullshit
e) pink is a banal representation drawing attention away from the real problems underneath
f) enough with the shitty marketing gimmicks and more support to the real fighters
g) sarcasm is really hard to master
@MelissaCole
I have been waiting for your response to this and I am 100% with you. Why couldn't the women inside the business just have talked about what they do?
@MelissaCole
Completely agree. The idea was a 'sarcastic' take on gender and marketing, but a pink bottle with 'beer for girls' just comes across the wrong way. It looks really shit. I think they failed to consider the immediacy of branding. You don't stand and pontificate over a beer label.
