Such a great #NCTE21 session from @MeganKowalski7, @RSchwartz702, and @aschoenborn. They share so many resources for Ts to help Ss access, interact with, and show meaningful learning using digital texts. Hyperdocs, websites, podcasts, student examples—thanks, all, for sharing!

A4: @aschoenborn and @chippewariverwp are my go to poetry resources! I also like @poetry4kids for some funny fluency building poems that students enjoy performing for our younger classrooms! #crwpchat

Who wants to join this class?
A2: Poetry finds its way into my classroom. Every. Single. Day. We don't break it down or analyze the words. We celebrate the words, the work, and the wonder with snaps. When students hear themselves in poems they feel seen. They are heard. #crwpchat

A3: I'm not sure why, but when we write poetry in classes, it just seems like kids open up. I feel like even funny, light poems have such an intensity that it opens a door for them to share intense experiences. #crwpchat

A2: It's really time for me to revamp how I teach figurative language and to build a more fun phonics routine by incorporating poetry. There are some opportunities for independent work and reading fluency practice that I'm missing out without using poetry regularly #crwpchat

A1: In elementary school, I remember really enjoying the funny, playful aspects of poetry and especially enjoyed Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky. I was pulled in by the inventive language and storytelling that could happen in such a short space. #CRWPchat

"When writers have an interesting purpose to write, they will write." Keep it simple! #CRWPchat
A4: The biggest challenge is for students to understand the purpose of a writing task. To overcome this I ask students to propose content area writing topics that interest them. When writers have a interesting purpose to write they will write. #CRWPchat

A4: Time can be a huge issue. Covering content is always tough and more involved writing assignments take time. I have to do a lot of preparation to make sure I'm maximizing instructional time. #CRWPchat
