In 1955, President Dwight D Eisenhower suffered a massive heart attack while playing golf.
What happened next brought on the BIGGEST obesity epidemic the world has ever seen.

Contrast this to the 1960s, where chicken was considered a delicacy.
Famed Chef Julia Child had this to say about chicken:
"Chicken should be so good in itself that it is an absolute delight to eat as a perfectly plain, butter roast, saute or grill."
However, the chicken we eat today is very different than what our grandparents grew up eating.
Modern chicken is notorious for being "dry, "bland," and "flavorless."
You typically need to fry it, overly season it, or marinate it in sauces and dressings to increase the flavor
Hong Kong has the highest life expectancy in the world.
Men: 81.3 Years
Women: 87.3 Years
They also have the highest meat consumption per capita:
302 pounds consumed per person each year.
Meat is not killing you.
In the 1940s, Chicken was expensive and reserved for very special occasions.
In 1948, the average chicken cost $3....
Which is $30 per bird adjusted for inflation.
Wildly expensive.
It's no exaggeration to state that the US is obsessed with chicken. Each year:
✅We eat 26 billion pounds of chicken
✅We spend almost $30B on broiler chickens to eat
✅We have an inventory of 518 Million chickens
✅The average American eats 65 pounds of chicken alone
In addition to this, we are basically eating gigantic baby birds.
For centuries, it has been known that a mature, adult bird is what creates the best flavor. In the early 1900s, chickens would be slaughtered around 4+ months.
Today's broiler is getting slaughtered at 47 days
This begs the question:
How did we end up with these fattened, flavorless birds that are dirty and pumped with hormones?
Enter the Chicken of Tomorrow Contest.
Our chickens are now so fat that they waddle when they walk. They have short legs and massive breasts that impair the mobility of the bird.
We have created genetically modified Frankenbirds that are created to get as fat as possible.
Contrast this to today, where chickens now are primarily fed corn & soy with the sole intention to get them fat as quickly as possible.
Carbs are now the sole focus of the Chicken's diet, which we refer to as the "High-Energy Diet."
Hint: This also works with humans.
As you saw in my first tweet, the Chickens of the early 1900's were vastly different birds that the chickens of today.
The average broiler chicken in the 1940s was around 3 pounds and it took a few months to get to that size.
It is also important to note that what chickens are now fed is drastically different for what they have been eating evolutionarily.
Chickens are meant to eat a wide range of items such as: grass & bugs, scraps, mice, frogs, etc. They are kept around farms to clean up scraps!
The rules of the contest were simple:
Each contestant raised their special breed of chicken for 12 weeks. The birds would then be slaughtered and judged.
The judges key metrics were size, skin, width of the breast, and average weight.
NOT TASTE.
The good news, is that there are still a number of great farms that breed & sell chickens the way they were supposed to be prior to 1948.
I recommend exclusively sourcing your chicken from a farm, where you can ensure the utmost quality of the bird.
If you interested in exploring these themes further, I highly recommend reading The Dorito Effect by
@MarkSchatzker
.
This book does an amazing job detailing how Big Food uses flavorings & dilution strategies to alter the food we are eating.
These poor nutritional inputs are evolutionarily inconsistent from what chickens are meant to eat and also have created a weak-tasting bird.
@CarniClemenza
Expands on this in his incredible thread on how our taste-buds have been manipulated by Big Food.
This is literally a 4X reduction in the age of the bird we are eating, which is responsible for the bland flavoring of today's bird.
Remember, we are talking about efficiency to create the most profit here.
The quicker you can slaughter the bird, the more $ you can make.
A good farm will have the chickens moving out in the pasture, consuming wide ranges of items.
Buying from a farm will allow you to directly ask the farmer questions about how the bird was raised.
Western medicine has a focus on drugs, surgery and radiation.
Preventative diets and holistic practices are highly discouraged by doctors.
In fact, health practitioners who prescribe these things are seen as "quacks" and cast off by Western medicine.

We are still eating the Chicken of Tomorrow and have continued to get even more "efficient" at creating our chicken product.
The average chicken broiler grows in 35 days, half the time of the fastest chicken in 1948.
Our birds are also much fatter, averaging 6.5 pounds.
Pierce ingeniously discovered a solution to his chicken issue.
He decided to have A&P sponsor:
"The Chicken of Tomorrow Contest."
This contest challenged competitors nationally to grow the fattest chickens in the shortest amount of time.
During WWII, Red Meat was rationed and Americans doubled the amount of chicken they ate as a result.
Howard "Doc" Pierce, the National Poultry Director at A&P, was worried that the increased demand for chicken would decrease and A&P's poultry sales would come crashing down.
A&P, the country's largest Supermarket at the time, saw that this contest could do 2 things for them:
1. Create a cost-efficient bird for future production
2. Be a genius PR stunt and increase the marketing of their brand
We the consumer, are the ones that ultimately suffer from this.
Conventional Grain-Fed birds have an Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio that can be as high as 17:1.
Contrast this to a pasture-raised chicken, which has an Omega 6 to Omega-3 ratio of 6:1.
There were two breeds that dominated the competition.
1. Arbor Acres White Rocks' white feathered birds flourish in the "purebred" category
2. Red Cornish Crosses from the Vantress Hatchery outperformed all in size, width, and weight.
As you can see, our Chicken has been industrialized just like the rest of our food system.
I firmly believe that you and your family have a god-given right to the best quality animal protein possible.
Prioritize sourcing it from the right sources and let your health flourish.
In the US, we are not in the practice of healthcare, we are in the practice of sickcare. Currently:
🔴70% of US adults are overweight or obese
🔴1 in 3 Americans are pre-diabetic
🔴7 out of 10 deaths are caused by Chronic Illness
🔴Heart disease kills 500,000 Americans yearly
Start seeing your food and lifestyle as the true medicine.
Be intentional about where your source your food and the amount of sleep you get.
Use these as your pillars to THRIVE.
You will be paying a bit more, but the taste and nutritional density of the chicken will be worth it.
Recipes like Marco Pierre White's roast chicken allow you to make the entire bird packed with flavor & juices.
It is your responsibility to be the CEO of your own health.
At the end of the day, no one cares about your own health more than you.
Take in a variety of different inputs and make the decision of what is in your best interest.
Through monopolistic practices, Rockefeller grew his company, Standard Oil, to control 90% of all oil refineries in the U.S.
Standard Oil has since broken up and has now become Chevron, Exxon, Mobil, etc.
Yes, that’s how big Standard Oil was in its prime.
We are also in a prescription drug epidemic due to our ties with Big Pharma and our tendency to over-prescribe. Currently:
🔴16M Americans abuse prescription drugs
🔴2M Prescription drug abusers are addicted
🔴4 out of 5 pharmacy-filled prescriptions are opioids

The next time your doctor spends 3 minutes with you during your visit and you feel like a "customer" instead of a patient, this post will hopefully give you clarity.
Not surprisingly, the cost of medical care in the US is
#1
in the world, yet our quality is ranked at
#37
.
Your life would instantly improve if you simply:
1. Cooked 90% of your meals
2. Ate meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables
3. Walked & sprinted every day
4. Got daily sunlight exposure
What am I missing?
This thread will detail the bizarre history behind John D Rockefeller's creation of Big Pharma and the foundations of Western Medicine that are destroying our metabolic health.
Picture on Left (March 2020):
- Receiving Remicade infusions every 6 weeks for colitis
- Eating seed oils
- Little Vitamin D / Sunlight exposure
Picture on Right (Jan 2022):
- No longer on Remicade
- Animal-based diet
- No seed oils
- Daily sunlight Exposure
It works.
This local farmer just lost out on a government grant.
I'll give you one guess on what company received the money.

🔴 THREAD 🔴
John D Rockefeller was an oil magnate and one of the richest men in history.
He was America’s first billionaire and amassed a fortune of $418B adjusted for inflation.
However, Rockefeller faced a major dilemma as he looked to monopolize medicine:
Natural & Herbal medicines were incredibly popular at the time.
Many doctors and medical schools in the US were advocating holistic practices as treatment & cure.
Rockefeller's next step was to launch a smear campaign against his holistic "competitors."
Homeopathy and Natural Medicines were quickly discredited by the newspapers and media outlets.
Rockefeller's approach worked incredibly well as he decimated the holistic competition and ultimate created our current medical system.
This system continues today: Big Pharma makes large donations to medical schools in exchange for these schools to prescribe their drugs.
Rockefeller acted quickly and purchased part of I.G. Farben - a German manufacturing company.
Side Note: I.G. Farben supplied the Nazis during WWII. Yep, look it up.
In 1900, Scientists discovered petrochemicals.
These were chemicals that could be created from oil.
Bakelite, the first plastic, was created from oil in 1907.
Keys cherry-picked 6 countries that would show a perfect correlation between Saturated Fat consumption and Heart-Disease related deaths.
When you plug in the remaining 15 countries, there is no correlation at all.
Keys knew it was a HYPOTHESIS and cherry-picked his data.
In a short period of time, medical schools & hospitals were homogenized with the same approach. Medicine was just about patented drugs, not utilizing holistic & natural approaches as treatment.
Again, this post is not to bash on Western Medicine.
It is to show the unfiltered history of John D Rockefeller and the role he played in shaping our current medical system.
Like he did for other competing oil companies, Rockefeller viewed natural remedies as his "competition" that needed to be decimated.
Rockefeller teamed up with Andrew Carnegie and hired a man named Abraham Flexner through the Carnegie Foundation.
Homeopathy and Natural medicines were utterly decimated in the report. Some holistic doctors were even jailed.
Rockefeller also donated a whopping $100M to colleges and hospitals under his philanthropic group called the General Education Board.
Flexner’s role was to travel the US and review Medical schools & hospitals across the country.
This led to the Flexner Report which resulted in the closure of almost 50% of all medical schools.
New food truck concept:
All we serve are grass-fed ribeyes, chopped up and lathered in different types of compound butter. Eat with your hands.
We also serve topo chico. Thats it.
Who is investing?
Prior to the 1990's, McDonalds' famous french fries were cooked in Beef Tallow.
A millionaire (who believed saturated fat was the root cause of heart attacks) campaigned for McDonalds to switch to a "heart-healthy oil."
Consumers immediately noticed an impact on the taste.
I share this long thread with you to unravel the history of our current dietary guidelines that were built off of an unfounded hypothesis.
Our system has failed you and it is our responsibility to turn our current dietary guidelines upside down so you can THRIVE.
Meanwhile, we have been eating butter and saturated fat for THOUSANDS of years.
Keys started blaming ancient foods for what modern lifestyle choices were causing (cigarette smoking & alcohol consumption).
Lastly, thank you to
@bigfatsurprise
and her amazing book The Big Fat Surprise that served as my inspiration for writing this thread.
This book is simply fantastic and Nina is a wealth of insight & information into our current US dietary system.
Petrochemicals would allow Rockefeller to monopolize another industry in addition to oil.
Business-wise, Rockefeller could patent these Petrochemicals and sell them for immense profits.
Scientists were discovering various synthetic vitamins that could be used to treat illnesses such as Scurvy and Rickets that were caused by Vitamin deficiencies.
Rockefeller thought that Petrochemicals could also be used to create vitamins and medications.
The sugar industry also did not want to be blamed for heart disease and metabolic disfunction.
In 1965, the sugar industry paid off Harvard Researchers to produce 2 articles to exonerate sugar and blame saturated fat for cardiovascular disease.
Americans obediently listed and cut back on red meat, whole milk, eggs, and butter.
The result?
Some of the highest obesity rates the world has ever seen.
