Now that Canadians have made a choice in their next government, there is much work ahead. This election, like most, was light on agri-food policy content. Platforms had some agri-food commitments,...

The answers were predictable, farmers are important, etc. Some notes: NDP admitted he didn't know about ag, but said he would sit with farmers. LPC had a good answer about reducing regulatory burden but its hard to square that with the last 10 years. CPC was most standard.
Getting ready to ask a ag question at a local all candidates debate. Here is what I will ask. Hopefully there will be some good answers!

Market diversification is critical for #cdnag. Was great to talk to @DevinDVote about what we can do to make it easier to get ag products to new markets.
While in Ottawa, I got the chance to sit down and talk with Tyler McCann from the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute. We talked about agriculture supply chain issues and how economic corridors across the country can improve our global competitiveness.

Finally, the work on diversification can't stop. There may be opportunities in the US due to the tariff advantage, but things have changed. Market access, infrastructure, supply chains, need more attention. Governments need to do the work that hasn't been done lately. (6/6)

It's interesting to see the reaction from US farm groups. Farm from unanimous, but seems like there is good recognition that they will not be winners in the trade war. (5/6) https://t.co/53atwmK2sU

General farm groups are raising concerns about retaliation, but they also emphasized the need to press for greater market access as well. Within the cattle industry, two groups that seldom agree on...

Lots in #cdnag have been concerned about the gov't protecting hypothetical EV jobs, but real auto jobs are already being hit by this. This isn't a direct #cdnag issue, but it underscores that the fight isn't over yet... (4/6) https://t.co/BH0ej6dy86

It will take a while to understand the impact on #cdnag. Trade flows will be disrupted and readjust and the potential recession with knock on effects on Canada may hurt. Retaliatory tariffs from others on US ag exports could further complicate the picture for Canada. (2/6)

A couple of thoughts on the US announcement yesterday. It's been interesting to read through the analysis and try and understand the significant uncertainty that remains. 🇨🇦 seems to have avoid the worst case scenario, but clearly isn't out of the woods yet. (1/6)
