#SQLHelp I have a stored procedure that's called thousands of times a minute, concurrently by 20+ threads. How does an ALTER on it work? I assume it needs a schema lock to do so, but would it just start blocking new executions until the existing executions are done, then ALTER?

A year or so more of this shit and Ballard will easily appear to have been more prophetic than Heinlein.

[A note from the DM] I haven’t posted much on this account for years now, but I have a big favor to ask: I’m self-publishing a children’s, THE LESSER LEGENDS, and hope you will check out the Amazon pre-sale page. 1/6 https://t.co/PcJIJVCCBM

#DBATools Does anybody know if you can use applicationintent=readonly with Copy-DbaDbTableData? It looks like you'd have to use invoke-dbaquery and write it, but it's multi-gb of data so I'd rather not buffer it. Doesn't look like the sqlinstance param can use conn str #SQLServer

#SQLHelp #Azure anybody run into issues on Azure Managed Instance where an extended event is hours behind/delayed, even if it's an in-memory target? I thought it was busted, but in the past 15 minutes it's pulled in events from over a 3 hour period.

Updated: my #SQLServer Extended Event "sev10+" tracker, where the session uses 10mb in the ring buffer to catch recent app/SQL errors (error_reported). Putting the finishing touches on my cross-server collector (trying to stomp out the insert deadlocks)

#SQLBlog #SQLServer Using the new CETAS functionality (Generally Available) to export data from my Managed Instance to Parquet files in Azure Blob Storage. You can do folder paths, partition on dates, etc. I prefer this to my python solution using Arrow. https://t.co/AhmSsz73Dq

#sqlhelp I'm collecting Extended Events (error_reported) from multiple servers, every 5 min. How do I not grab duplicates when I re-grab? Both timestamp and event sequence appear to have issues. A gigantic "where not exists" seems inelegant. Thanks! #sqlserver #extendedevents
