Mboko and Osaka have both risen inside the WTA top 25 after reaching the Montreal final, ensuring both should be seeded for the US Open. World No.25 is Osaka's highest ranking since January 2022.

By reaching the AO 2002 QF, Venus had built a 24-match win streak, winning 48 of her past 50 sets. Seles entered the match-up 0-6 vs Williams, and 0-5 in her past five major QFs. Yet she turned back the clock.

And now with Osaka getting a performance bye, it's apparently a 94-player draw. So which two players got squeezed out?.

Osaka v Ostapenko for a place in the 4R of the Canadian Open in Montreal, which makes me think back to this quote from the 2019 WTA Finals. This is just their 2nd meeting since then, and 3rd ever.

The Gauff-Sabalenka RG 2025 final was not only significant for being a 1v2 final…. It was the first time that a major final rematch had been set since Wimbledon 2018 (Kerber-Serena). It ended an Open-era record of 25 straight major finals featuring one-time match-ups.

Swiatek overtook Goolagong in 10th place on the women’s Open-era list for the highest Slam win %. Just ahead of her, in 9th place? Henin, whom Swiatek would very nearly equal should she beat Anisimova in the #Wimbledon final.

Iga Swiatek has become the youngest player since Justine Henin 23 years ago to reach major finals on all surfaces, and will play for the Wimbledon title that eluded the great Belgian.

Sinner v Alcaraz, meanwhile, feels like Federer v Nadal but for entirely the opposite reason — they’re now meeting in multiple major finals.

The trio will collect a 13th straight major title between them after Alcaraz and Sinner’s progression to the #Wimbledon final. More specifically, it will be the 7th consecutive major title for ‘Sincaraz’ dating back to AO 2024 — continuing their great Slam duopoly.

Anisimova after the 2019 RG SF: "I played Junior Wimbledon one time and I lost 13-11 in the 3rd set or something. Everyone tells me my game suits grass but that time I didn't leave thinking that. Hopefully with a bit more practice and getting used to it then maybe I can do well.".
