Making his @sfopera debut, George Petean, stars as Count di Luna in "Il trovatore," opening Tuesday. Petean speaks about Verdian voices, why "Trovatore" is a beloved #opera, and why, for this baritone, singing #Verdi keeps things all in the family. https://t.co/McdE3DOCWe #SFCV

The Romanian singer, making his SF Opera debut in Il trovatore, has been well taught but also has the right tools for the trade.

Remembering with huge admiration the great British tenor Graham Clark. He sang with @sfopera three times in a diverse array of repertoire: Albert Gregor in Makropulos, The Witch in Hansel & Gretel and, pictured here, as Piet the Pot in Le Grand Macabre. An extraordinary artist.

A much deserved bow from Janet Popesco Archibald as she retires from the @sfoperaorchestr after 32 years of glorious artistry that has nourished the soul of the company. Thank you Janet for such extraordinary devotion to excellence and for making @SFOpera your artistic home.

My heart is full! I am so proud to be a part of this glorious company. We carry forth the legacy of all who have gone before and we honor the thousands who have brought to life sublime art on this stage. It is humbling and exhilarating to be at this moment. Happy 100 @SFOpera!

You won’t find projections or high-tech re-creations of work by Mexican painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera in “El Ășltimo sueño de Frida y Diego” at @sfopera. “We went back to the aesthetics of painting,” said the opera’s director, Lorena Maza.

What do you call a collective of BrĂŒnnhildes? Usually you’re ecstatic to have just one on your stage. We have 3! @sfopera Die Frau ohne Schatten. 4 performances left through 6/28. Don’t let the moment pass you by. It’s too good. Nina Stemme, Camilla Nylund, Linda Watson

Going big for the Centennial @sfopera. The largest orchestra we’ve had in the pit with 96 members of the extraordinary @sfoperaorchestr for Strauss’ Frau ohne Schatten conducted by @MaestroDCR. Come see what it’s like to be in the middle of that much sound. It’s beyond intense.

One minute we were gazing at the San Francisco opera house’s gorgeous chandelier from the orchestra pit. The next minute we were climbing down inside it to see how they change the lightbulbs. I love my job. #TotalSF
